Anamosa, Iowa (September 29, 2009) - The National Motorcycle Museum has announced that it is preparing to move to a new larger facility. It also announced the addition of Mark Mederski as Special Projects Director to help with the move and the design of the new location. In its 21st year of operation the Museum is thrilled to be planning a huge new showcase for the colorful history of riding and racing in America, and the space to offer more opportunities for motorcycle collectors to get involved with the museum.

At the September 2009 gathering of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America in Davenport, Iowa, John Parham, President of the National Motorcycle Museum, let the world know his big plans for the Museum. “I want to take the Museum to the next level. Plans are still in the early stages, but we will be moving to a better, larger structure still in Anamosa, Iowa. The new space will allow us to present our collection of over 225 motorcycles and thousands of great pieces of motorcycling memorabilia in a much more exciting way,” said Parham.

Parham went on to mention that he has recruited the Museum’s new Special Projects Director, Mark Mederski. Mederski has over 20 years experience in museum design and marketing and will be in charge of the elaborate project to refit a building twice the size of the current space, produce the exhibition designs and oversee reinstallation of over 225 motorcycles, as well as thousands of related objects including art, apparel, advertising materials, toys, and more. “I see this as the best opportunity I’ve ever been offered to work with a fantastic permanent collection, a perfect piece of architecture and with a great team lead by John Parham.” Mederski offered, “If you have a passion for great old motorcycles, and related materials, and the interesting stories of the people that invented, rode and raced them, we will deliver an exciting, yet educational experience.”

Parham also made it clear that the non-profit National Motorcycle Museum wants to involve America’s motorcycle collectors in telling the stories of American motorcycling. “No matter how big one museum’s collection is, it will always need help from other collectors to tell the complete motorcycle story, and keep the exhibits changing”, said Parham. “When we are creating temporary exhibitions as well as more permanent shows we plan to put out a call for certain machines and materials. For example women’s apparel as we build the Women & Motorcycling section or board track racers to help tell those exciting stories.”

A completion date for the new location has not yet been established but while work is under way to transform and relocate the original location remains open at 200 East Main Street in Anamosa, Iowa. Visit the National Motorcycle Museum website (www.nationalmcmuseum.org) for more information, coverage of the process and ways you can become part of the project.
