Rider magazine's Mr. Safety, Larry Grodsky, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, in a motorcycle accident in Texas. The Rider staff is devastated by his loss, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family. Larry’s column Stayin’ Safe has appeared in Rider every month since 1988, and through it and his Stayin’ Safe Motorcycle Training Program he has inspired and helped train thousands to be better and safer motorcycle riders.

Larry was riding at night just north of Big Bend Park in southern Texas on Route 385 when his motorcycle collided with a deer. He was on his way home to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after attending the International Motorcycle Safety Conference in California.

Grodsky, age 55, of Squirrel Hill, Pennsylvania is the son of Harold and Violet Grodsky of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and brother of Marcia Grodsky of Pittsburgh. Lawrence is also survived by his dear friend Mary Ann Puglisi, as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. More than 20 motorcycles led a processional to funeral services on Tuesday, April 11, which were attended by a large crowd of over 100 family and friends, some of whom rode from as far away as Georgia to pay their respects.
