2013 Middleweight Metric Cruiser Comparo

These four boys of the boulevard have the sound, look and feel of larger cruisers, but smaller engines and lower prices.

My favorite comfort foods, heart-warming and artery-clogging classics like mac-and-cheese, buttermilk biscuits and pulled-pork barbecue, are straightforward and uncomplicated, each prepared with a short list of ingredients and easy techniques. But many cooks have been fooled by such simplicity, following... Read more »

Japan’s Big Four have been fierce competitors for decades, and they’ve all been making cruisers geared toward the American market since the Reagan era. Long and low, black as night and trimmed with just enough chrome to entertain the eye, Suzuki’s 2013 Boulevard C90T B.O.S.S. (Blacked Out Suzuki Special) cuts a figure worthy of favorable commentary, or so was my experience after spending a month with this machine. But a spiffy black suit isn’t enough... Read more »

American Suzuki recently took the tough step of filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and ceasing auto sales in the U.S., which will allow it to focus on its motorcycle and marine business in this country. The plan has already resulted in its powersports lineup swelling from just 10 bikes and ATV models in... Read more »

Mid-size bikes make a lot of sense. Not only because they tend to be less expensive and lighter, but also because they have become so competent. Considering competence, this trio of liquid-cooled, 650cc-class twins each has a 6-speed transmission, chain final drive and some gravel-road pretensions (though... Read more »

In the 1950s and ’60s motorcycle styling was of little concern to either the OEMs or consumers. Two wheels with an engine in between was the standard of the day, with minor differences in the shape of the gas tank. Then in 1973, Triumph USA and designer Craig Vetter came up with the Hurricane, and... Read more »

Remember the SV650? When it debuted in 1999, Suzuki’s small-fry naked bike wowed the press and public alike despite having modest power, budget components and no wind protection. Why? The SV650 had that special something not all bikes have. It can’t be bolted on and it doesn’t show up in spec charts.... Read more »

In 2002, Suzuki introduced the DL1000 V-Strom, an adventure touring motorcycle that combined power, comfort, ruggedness and load capacity into a go-anywhere package. Due to excellent performance in Suzuki motorcycle reviews and road tests, V-Stroms – along with the DL650 variant introduced in 2004 – have proven to be very popular among touring riders.
