BMW Announces R 1200 R “DarkWhite” Special Edition

In his test of the updated-for-2011 BMW R 1200 R, Editor-in-Chief Mark Tuttle concluded, “Whatever you want the R 1200 R to be, it’s ready for the bolt-ons to make it happen really well, though BMW’s rockin’ roadster can also handle almost anything you throw at it as-is.” The sporty boxer made 99.6 horsepower and 76.2 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheel, its handling was impressive and the partially linked ABS brakes scrubbed off speed with ease.
BMW has announced the release of the R 1200 R “DarkWhite” special model, which highlight’s the bike’s sporty side. It offers an exciting contrast between the bodywork with its light white paintwork and the jet black of the drivetrain and wheels. Frame in asphalt grey, swingarm, rear axle housing and triangular wishbone in matte black and black anodized fork tubes lend the roadster an exclusive high-tech feel. It also features a sport windscreen and sport seat. In addition, the BMW R 1200 R “DarkWhite” special model can be enhanced with special accessories and optional extras from the extensive BMW Motorrad range.

The price in Germany will be € 13,000 (approx. US$17,600) and is scheduled to be released on October 1. U.S. availability is TBD.
