Had engine cut out after refueling. Tried to start got loud backfires. Waited 10 minutes and engine started with no problems. Recently had engine cut out while cruising along at 30 mph. Waited 10 minutes and engine started OK with not further problems. Anybody else had a similar problem and found solution?

I had an 82 Goldwing that had a similar problem. Thanks to a good mechanic I found the problem. Take a jug of water along on your next ride. When the bike quits and won't start right away, try pouring the water over the fuel pump (my bike was lower right side of engine, external). If the bike starts right up, the fuel pump is overheating and needs to be replaced. Drove me nuts till I found it. I swore it was electrical because it seemed intermittent. Good luck!

Pete,
I had an 86 GW with a similar problem right after I bought it from a dealer. My problem was electrical. I don't know the technical part names, but check the left side under the panel. Look around the main fuse block...there are several main type fuses or relays that could be heating up to cause your problem. On mine, you could see the wires in that area that were black and melted from overheating. After it cooled down...it would start...just like yours. After that part or set of parts was replaced, it work great from that point on. It sounds like that if it were a fuel problem, like was suggested, you would not be getting a backfire....that is usually caused by an electrical malfunction somewhere….not a lack of fuel.
I wish I could help more...but check this out and let me know...
