In November of 2009 I picked up my first bike; a 2001 Yamaha V-Star 650. It has 8800 miles, 900 are mine. The seat is great for short trips. I ride it 35 miles round trip to work as much as I can, and for local errands. It is comfortable enough for those.
I just rode my first lengthy trip of about 250 miles today. I could not stop squirming around in the seat and changing foot position to try to get comfotable. I came home with a numb butt, and do not look forward to subjecting my wife to the even-smaller passenger seat for any length of time.
I know its better to do it right the first time, but I do not have bottomless pockets. I've attempted some online and catalog research of my own, but everyone claims their solution is 'the best'. Gels? Sheepskin? Memory foam? Covers or entirely new seats? I need some advice. ? :-/

On my LSR website, one person had used this company for his seat. He says he only spent 52 dollars INCLUDING shipping, and another had some major work done, (recovered in ostrich, mem foam, etc)and swears by them.
I am thinking of doing this to my seats if i do not decide to buy a new bike.

Boy, if there ever was a "been there, done that" this is it!
I too found the stock seat on my 00' V-Star Classic, tolerable only for short distances. I tried the gel-pads and fur-gel-pads and finally solved the problem by buying a Corbin replacement seat! I bought it new from a motorcycle shop on Ebay for $145 including shipping! I believe the model name of the Corbin seat is the "Solo". Shortly after that I sold the stock seat for $50. It's was the best $145 I ever spent! Shop around, I'm sure you will find a similar deal. Good luck and ride safely!

I almost always end up putting aftermarket seats on my bikes. Sargent makes good seats for sportbikes while my Harley has a really nice Mustang seat.

Here is a good one for ya. Mustang seats are made in Plymouth/Terryville
CT! Some of the "sub work" is done in NY State! One would think there would be a factory outlet store somewhere in CT. for Mustang seats!
No way! The factory won't sell to the public, not even blemished
products!
Around 20 years ago Uniroyal (formerly known as the U.S. Rubber Company, used to let the local teenagers "test" their U.S. Keds!
Remember those? At one time they were the official American sneaker.
Everybody wore U.S. Ked's. Uniroyal even sold Samsonite luggage and brief cases for a song, because they made the material (shell) for Samsonite! Car shocks were also available because Uniroyal made the rubber parts for the car shock maker! Things sure have changed.....for the worst.
