Sound Rider, a NW e-zine, is asking that participants in their organized rides wear a full face helmet.

Sound Rider Dealer Letter

SR Tour
(scroll down to the fine print)

I ride 98% of the time with a 3/4 helmet. I also own a full face helmet, but only use it during rides that I know will go thru rain, or cold.

Riding behind a large windscreen, allows me to comfortably use the 3/4 helmet 12 months a year.

If I am on a sport bike, I do use the full face, but since I only own Harleys, that doesn't happen very often.

Whaddya think?

I absoloutly cannot wear a full face as i am severely claustrophobic and i feel it limits my vision quite a bit. At least with a 3/4, i feel i have more vis, if i want the shield down i can do that, but its clear so i dont feel all caged in and the shield is huge so i feel i have more vis. (weather or not you agree, or provide facts that im wrong about the vis, idc. Its my feeling while wearing one, not a silly fact )

I wear a full faced helmet because of studies like this. Plus, I generally hit my chin when I wreck.

I must be lucky then, 2 wrecks, 1 serious, no head injury, no helmet involved.

But its also why im buying some kind of helmet. I had a headache for days and im sure that could have been avoided..the broken ribs, not so much lol

I just saw a forwarded e-mail showing a sportbike rider imbedded into the back of a tractor-trailer. He was going 120 when he slammed into the trailer, and his head pushed into the back end so hard, he was stuck on while the trucker drove another 4 miles until someone stopped him. Very gruesome sight, but his full-face helmet is what saved him from dying. The bike was found all balled-up off the road by state troopers. New Jersey I think.

I wear my favorite Carbon Fiber DOT half helmet about 85 percent of the time , but will use a 3/4 or full face when it gets cold and/or wet . Mostly for the same reason as Doug mentioned, that I currently ride a cruiser with windshield and can enjoy the comfort of the smaller lighter helmet.

I think I saw the same email, but the one I read said he died. Problem with pictures is they make a great visual, but they don't show the entire truth.

I agree w/BlatherHead, I too am claustorfobic and don't like a full helmet. I wear a half lid and I always will because i can see and hear a lot better with it. I'll wear the 3/4 but not unless i really have to I just like the half lid. You never know when it's your turn to go, so why not live and ride the way you want to. later ya'all..... Hawg gone...

I know this is an old thread but I'll put in my two cents worth...
There was a study done, not sure if it was the Hurt Report or not, that in a majority of crashes you land on your facial area. That being said I'm rather attached to my face, such as it is... That is why I always wear a full face. ok... that is all...

Pretty low key here, so coming up on an old thread is always OK.
