I remember one morning I am stopped at a light..This guy pulls up beside me on one of the Yamaha Star bikes I think...It was loud and he was lookin' the part. You know; leather jacket...bandana..herman munster boots. He looks my bike over and gives the 'whats-up' head bob. I return the gesture. He was too cool...until he pulled off ahead of me and I saw the 'Hello Kitty' backpack he was wearing. I nearly fell my bike laughing. That made my day. I guess he borrowed his daughter's backpack. A real 'Mild Hog' type!

Oh yeah! The wave. I wave to everybody on a scoot. Makes no difference what they ride. Some wave back, some don't. I figure that the ones that don't wave back are riders that are afraid to remove there hands from the handle bars.
Or they just might be SAFE riders. I don't think anybody on a scoot would be that stuck-up. Have Fun and RIDE SAFE

I get waves from all types, shapes, sizes and brands out here in Tx.
Nicest one yet was from a long haired woman today on a rocket. Almost lost control when i saw her.

getting back to the orignal thread. test rode the cross roads, cross country and 8ball vision today. have to say the cross bikes handled like a dream with plenty of power and what really surprised me was how low the center was. being short it felt like i was on my old honda cb350. the vision was nice too. i never liked the looks of the vision but with the blacked out scheme it kind of looked cool, kind of like the batman bike. but not cool enough to buy. but the cross country is gonna be my next bike for sure. i know i am kind of prejudiced but anytime i can ride a bike for free i do.

Getting back to the wave, I started riding on a Honda 450CB. I waved at everyone on 2 wheels. Back then, the early 70's it was the "ride" on wave, hand raised in the air. I still wave at everything on 2 wheels which gives kids on mopeds a chuckle.
I was at a light and a cop on a bike pulled up. He nodded, we chatted about riding in all kinds of weather, couple of niceties and we went our separate ways. A couple of weeks later I'm tooling down the road on a newly reduced speed limit when I see a cop on the side road lift his bike off the stand. I look down and dman, I'm doing 40 in a now 25 zone. I immediately pull over and wait for him to pull up with lights a blazing. He let me know that they would be doing enforcement on the street for the next couple of weeks and I should drop it down a notch. It was the same cop, no ticket. You just never know who you're going to meet on 2 wheels.

I know they offer 4.99% or up to 2500 dollars off of certain bikes and layaway, but not sure how that works. I was looking at a few the other day as well. Had some 08 and 09's here in austin.

...um....here's my humble opinion...
...there are many makes of V-twins out there...many..almost every major bike manufacturer now has a V-twin in their line-up....
...all those V-twin models are based on the success H-D has had with their endearing and outdated V-twin...it was a case of ...if you can't beat them...copy them
...if you had to line up all those V-twin bikes in a row...Suzuki..Yamaha...Victory...etc...and H-D....I'd still pick out the H-D as the nicest looking ride...it may not be as technologically advanced as other models...but from a " looks" point of view...it wins hands down...
ok...I did say that was my opinion..

And that's as good as any, Howsit. Would'nt it be fair to say that any company that's been in bus. for 106 years must have done a few things right? That success rides on a motor design that is considered the most durable, usable power, and (considered by many) to be the most beautiful (and the most copied).
Copying is the best form of flattery, so everyone else is just jealous. Amen to that.

Some are just outright copies no doubt but lets not flatter ourselves. There are not too many variants on the basic design of a motorcycle, much like the bicycle. Handlebars, frame, motor, two wheels. The copied style I agree is because they want a piece of the harley pie for sure. As far as technology goes the Harley twin is full of marvelous engineering it is not 'outdated' as some say. It is a very high-tech 'old' design. HD uses that design because they 'want' to and we demand it. If anybody kills the MoCo , it will be us. So fickle are we every time they try something new...say ...like the Vrod. I never heard such trash talk among HD owners about that bike. Its not a 'real' Harley and so on. Some folks never even considered a Harley until the Vrod came out. If we force the company to stay right where they are and avoid anything new, I promise you it will not survive another 107 years. Of course...we won't be here to post about it...so I digress... I would buy that 8-ball Vision and knock off those silly handrail things on the back...but I will never sell my FLHT...sometimes I like apples...sometimes oranges..!
