We were doing some bar hopping last week and I was riding with my radio off but I did notice the HD emblem while riding, anyway we got to the next stop and someone asked for the time, so I tuned the key and there was nothing. I checked both of the fuses and later noticed that the light worked on the radio display but nothing else works. Before I pull the fairing on my 07 Road Glide I thought I would ask for help in finding a replacement radio with a cd/mp3 player, I would also like to hear from anyone who has had their radio fail.

Only problem with my radio, and it is different from yours, was the switch no longer activates the lead to the helmet speakers. However, I will be very interested in how this problem will be solved. I am considering upgrading to an aftermarket radio, and better speakers. I have to get the fairing off this winter anyhow, to do some unrelated repair, and figure on getting the inner panel painted, and replacing the speakers, and the air temp guage, and finding a better radio. Lots of ads in Thunderpress for radio upgrades, just not sure who to believe.

Thanks I'll have to pick up a copy of Thunder press and check out the adds. I have removed the fairing before to upgrade my speakers to J&M and replace my headlights for something a little brighter. I guess I'll have to check out some websites for marine radios that might fit.

Did those J & M speakers really sound better?

I know this doesn't offer any encouragement, or a solution to the problem, but it seems like every time I'm at my dealer's service department, there's a bike there with radio problems.
Obviously, there's an issue.

Mine is the 04, older model radio, only problem was that switch. I do shove a shop vac nozzle in the slot, and set it to 'suck' every so often. But for what that thing goes thru, rain, dust and freeway expansion joints, for it to keep running for 60,000 miles is pretty good.

I too Ride an '07 RG and live/work in the MD area. I would strongly suggest checking out "Crutchfields" for any new radio equip you might consider. Great products and service. Located in C'Ville VA but great mail order service. I might suggest a unit that is 100% digital...lets you download all of your music via ipod aux link or SD cards right into card slot on face of radio....lot less moving parts as in none...so less to break ie cd player cassett etc. thgousands of songs that require no cd's or such. Between XM and digital files loaded with only what I want to hear I only use the radio for live sports or the weather report. Good luck...hope to see you on the road some day.

Sorry I've been away for a couple of days. The J&M speakers do sound better than stock, mine are an older version with a single chrome tweeter (that has never rusted in 35,000 miles) they are making a 7 inch speaker now with a tweeter and midrange speaker in the grille in black or chrome for $279.00, I think it would pump out a lot more bass and I would like to upgrade. I think my radio has a power problem so I'm going to see if any connections are corroded first and get out my test light, I just haven't felt like pulling off the fairing yet. And I have been to Crutchfield but didn't see anything that I liked so far, I'm worried about putting a regular ole radio in my bike, I keep it in the garage but I have ridden through my share of rain and I am worried that it will get trashed by the rain. I haven't really thought about a stereo that uses memory instead of cd's, but that's a very good idea. One person on another forum suggsted the Kenwood stereo he used, but I looked at it and it had a open cd slot that was just begging for some road dirt and rain. I am also not too fond of Sony that Hogtunes offers but a lot of people swear by them. Thanks for all the imput and keep it coming.

Thanks for joining up and chiming in. Don't know about the newer radio, but mine has an auxiliary jack that I can use for an I Pod, if I had one.
Tell us about riding DC. I have been there in the winter, when the Park Police escorting the President use Harley sidecar rigs.
I started a thread on the other side of this motorcycle forum, called 'where did you ride today?' some folks post there, and others start their own thread.

I wondered about that tweeter, riding in the rain is a given here in the NW, good info.
