Crap. My son calls me and says the oil pressure light stays on while riding down the highway. Duh! He says it had been flickering at idle, and just started staying on at speed. Stock 98 Road King. Don't think this is going to turn out good. I checked the oil level, and it is mid stick hot, which would be a little low. Gonna check it again when I get home tonight.

Without looking at a repair manual, I'll tell you to do this.
First locate the oil pressure switch. It should have a wire harness connected to two terminals. Disconnect it and then short the two ends of the wire harness together with a wire. Next turn the ignition on and there should be no oil light lit. This will tell you that there are no opens in the bikes wire harness. Next I would replace the oil pressure switch myself and then take it for a ride.
If that doesn't fix it, then I'ld take it in for repair. Still could be a bad wire harness that only shows up when riding over bumpy roads or the motor has an oil pressure problem.
Good Luck,
P.S. You may find that the wire harness to the oil pressure swith
was loose.

Finally got thru to my tech, and that is what he said to check. He said if motor wasn't making noise, more than normal, was prolly the wiring. He will still put a pressure guage on it for me. Gonna try wire fix tonight, and then check pressure when I can get off work on time.
What Howsit said was zactly what I said to my kid, IT DON"T HEAL BY ITSELF!
Blue Falcon, good directions, which is what I need, will let ya all know how it turns out.

My 05 RKC oil light flickers when riding in the rain ( which seems to be most of the time lately ). Has done this since it was new. The first couple of times it did it I had it trucked home and to the dealer. Had it to the dealer many times and they can not find anything wrong with it. ( of course they do not test it in the rain ). There answer is, do not ride in the rain. I put an oil pressure gauge on it to be safe. As long as the gauge shows good pressure I do not worry about the light. It is aggravating to have the light flicking. This might not be the same problem you are having but sounds similar. If you find an answer to your problem let me know what you find. Have Fun and RIDE SAFE

I know who won. Everything goes on the back burner when it comes to grand children and that's the way it should be. They grow up to fast and we have to enjoy them when we get the chance. There is NOTHING like grand children. I love being a grand parent. Enjoy them now. Have Fun and RIDE SAFE.

I'm glad you didn't have a chance to look at it last night as I got home and looked at the repair manual. It turns out that the oil pressure switch on Road Kings is a normally closed switch when I thought it would be an open switch.
With the ignition on, the circuit is complete as the switch provides the case ground. Once the engine is started and the oil pressure is up the switch will open and thus the light will go out. So once again locate the oil pressure switch. Should be on the forward right side of the motor next to where you spin the oil filter on. There should be a single wire on a 90 degree elbow connector connected to the switch. Pull it off. Now turn the ignition on and the light should not be on. If it is, then the wire harness is shorted to the bike frame thus completing the circuit.
The manual says to install oil pressure switch using a 15/16 crows foot torque at 96-120 in-lbs. (Apply Loctite Pipe Sealant with Teflon 565 to threads)
Kpapa your problem is similar. I believe that the wire insulation on your oil pressure switch has pulled back some. When water reaches it, it shorts it to case ground thus turning the light on. You can duplicate this by starting the bike and then using a water bottle with a pull top, douse it with water and watch the light come on. If the insulation is not the problem but the light still comes on when you douse the switch with water, it is possible that the ceramic insulation on the oil pressure switch is cracked and water is causing it to short.
