After running punched out stock muffs, then switching to true duals with Super Trapps, I have gone back to a set of stock, unmolested mufflers. Got a set of 07 FLH tubes mounted up this evening. Idle is still louder than I would like, but it really quiets down under throttle.
Why would I do this? On my last long trip, I camped out every night. The days on the road were all 400 +, and I really wanted to get an early start, but I was really uncomfortable firing up at 6:30 or 7 am, with all these folks around. So I would be ready to roll at 8. Pipes just seemed really loud in the early morning.

I know how you feel. I hate to disturb folks early in the a.m. My first set of mufflers were Wild Pigs from a company in Daytona Florida. A little loud with 1 3/4 inch baffles. I went back to the stock mufflers for awhile because I was having trouble with the baffles. I happened to be having a beer with my neighbor during this time. He asked why I wasn't riding my bike to work any more. I replied I had been riding everyday. He says "I don't hear you in mornings anymore." I guess the pigs were louder than I thought. I am now running Rush mufflers with 1 3/4 baffles. While I was running the stock mufflers my radio sure sounded better! I would switch to something quieter in a heartbeat if I could keep the performance the same. The fuel pak, mufflers and K&N were a noticeable change.

Thanks for the reminder about Rush. I will be looking at those after the first of the year. Now if we could just do something about the cost of tires!!!!

I still have my stock pipes hanging on the wall of my garage. I was just curious if you were running a fuel pak or power commander. When I first started researching the fuel pak I never saw any setting that correlated to a stock engine/stock pipe setup but just a tad richer than stock. If I had found that I probably would have used it. I love the throttle response of the new setup and the Rush mufflers are not that loud but it would have been cheaper to add the fuel pak and just richen it up a bit.
Did you re-tune to go back to stock mufflers?

I am running stock induction, and fuel management. Plugs looked just fine, with the true duals, and fuel mileage stayed the same. Rush appears to have done much work in setting up the pipes to work with the Power Commander. That may be the ticket. I am also considering the Terry Components Terminal Velocity module, and the new wireless RideMaxx. Obviously, with 52,000 miles on the bike, I don't rush into these sorts of decisions. I had planned on updating to a Power Commander right after I did the true duals, but I was happy with the way it sounded and ran. Still don't really need to do anything, but I would like more power, as my wife is planning on joining me more often.
