I noticed in many forums and even my favorite mag, Rider doesn't focus much on Victory cycles as a real competitor in the cruiser arena. I don't know if it's an oversight or blind ignorance, but as a owner, it seems odd that an American company doesn't receive its due as much as others.
I have noticed in the past few weeks a lot of mention to Harley's which are no doubt great bikes have some competition in the smaller company at more affordable prices. That's what drew me in, along with gas prices the way they are, I couldn't overextend myself on a bike just to save gas. Victory was outlet and a good one. I have been very pleased and aside from some recent battery issues, it is a great bike.
I plan to upgrade soon to get more experiences on different types and even plan on getting one for the "old lady" soon. Thanks for all you do , its a great magazine and have received a ton of information from the forums.
Just adding my 2 cents,
Charles

I believe advertising may contribute to the answer. It stands to reason, a large advertising account, the more exposure the company will get. I learned a long time ago, not to put too much faith in what a publication prints about a product. If the publication has advertisements it has to be somewhat "lenient" on their rating of the product. On the other hand publications like "Motorcycle Consumer", carries no advertisements and has to be beholden to no one but the publication purchaser. I subscribe to Rider and Cruiser to read the consumers opinions and to see what's new, but I take everything else with a grain of salt.

If anyone doubts Vstar-Guy's wisdom on this...Just look at the pictures in Rider. I can't recall where branded clothing wasn't being warn. BUT I don't care as I am a capitalist. I never buy garments that advertise companies though I did get stuck with HJC on my helmet.
There are a lot of Harley dudes compared to Victory dudes. If I know this Rider knows it and acts accordingly. I must add that I see little if any brand bias in Rider. What I do see is them getting bigger woodies for certain brands.

I really like Victory's also. They are quite pricey though and the closest dealer is over 50 miles away. I think the lack of dealerships (at least in this NW Ohio area) is hurting them. I have yet to see a Victory on the road around here.

Talking about "pricey"? Check out the new Indians! IMO they have that "look" only Indian has. I like it, but the out the door price starts somewhere in the high 30's. I believe this is the second attempt to revive the brand. I would like to see them succeed but they couldn't have picked a worst time to do it, with the economy they way it is. I imagine they won't be making too many in 09'. If you are interested see: www.indianmotorcycle.com.
PS
Sorry for going off topic. I was more involved with "pricey" than Victory. But yes, Victory too is up there in price. Is it completely American made or American assembled?

Victory's are OK. There is so much "style" going on with them that I feel like they are trying to tell me what I should like. You know like TV, Movies and everything else...Wanna buy an iPod? Hey!! You need a new CELL PHONE!
As for the Indians....Ugly fender no wonder they keep going out of business...They picked a "style" that appeals to who? Well guys that like GIANT whitewalls and those ain't many. I hope they make it though.
May not make much sense to you guys but it does to me :-)

Grippy,
I had to laugh at your distaste for Indian styling only because there I was, so much into it and you are not. It just struck me as funny. It is interesting how different styles appeal to different people. I'm more into the cruiser look, like the VStar. But I can understand other peoples likes and dislikes too. The one thing I don't get is the position one has to be in to ride a sport bike. It looks almost like one is lying down! I guess you have to be a young person to enjoy it. Old farts like me like Cruisers.

I have tried to like those fenders :-) Really! I would like to drive a sport bike just to see how it is but that is as far as that goes. I have always liked the cruisers the best.

Being a Goldwing guy, I guess its a little unusual for me to want a Vision. But I can probably get two fairly new wings for the same price of a new Vision. As far as sport bike I was unfortunate to have the opportunity of ride my nephew's ZX7.
I thought I was going to die! I felt as though my face was on the pavement. I felt like I had to be careful with the really good brakes. Everything was so close in and tight I felt as though I was going to fall off :-)
