I've had good luck with Japanese bikes as well. When I started this thread I was going to rant a little about how dollars made by a hypothetical foreign-owned Harley-Davidson might end up overseas. Maybe even used to buy more real estate and businesses here. A lot of the Harley faithful that have been supporting the Motor Company all through the tough years might be offended it were sold to a foreign group. I guess I thought some folks would think of Harleys as less American if the company was foreign-owned. Maybe that kind of thinking is too old school for today's 'global' economy.

When we no longer produce any products in USA,It will be Corporate Greed not Union Labor! If you look back in our history the U.S. was a strong manufacturing country, It was the fact we didn't upgrade our steel mills after WWII and our Auto plants put out some Lousy designed vehicle in the 70's and 80's. Look at H.D. AMF in the 70s it just about did them in! If you pay a worker a good fair wage we all benefit !!!!

I just read that Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover. Daimler-Benz owns Chrysler. Two iconic English automobiles are, or were American owned. I'll bet that chapped a few a$$es in England. And one of the world's best car makers owns Dodge.

Daimler owns only 20% of Chrysler. An American company, of which Dan Quayle is an executive, owns the other 80%. Unfortunately, corporate greed is as American as apple pie. American companies obsessed with the bottom line are forgetting to protect their greatest asset; the American worker. Now even foreign companies are coming here to abuse the American workforce. For those of us trying to support our companies here, the businesses should produce quality goods and take care its people to show they deserve our support.

My philosophy has always been, may the best man win. If it weren't for foreign competition can you imagine the******American companies would be forcing upon Americans. A free and fair market will always give the consumer the best product. If anything, Harley-Davidson owners should be THANKING riders of foreign sports bikes for FORCING HD to make a better motorcycle. But by the sounds of it HD is only squeaking by.

If Harley put out better bikes because of foreign companies quality, then I couldn't imagine what Harleys would be like without the competition.

1980 FLH shovel, Electra Glide, chain drive, 4 speed, and I thot it was the slickest bike ever.

My 04 Ultra would not be fuel injected, with cruise control, belt drive, and a stereo, and so reliable that after 53,000 miles, the only thing besides tires and brake pads, that I had fixed, was I blew out the speakers. They replaced under warranty, because I turned them up too high.

American Made?

I was in the U A W for years and we I American when I can, I own two Chevy 4x4s and when I traded in my Vrod For a Vstar I felt guilty for awhile and still catch hell from my union bros and Harley riders!

I love Motorcycles, period! American, jap British, and others, I hate to see American jobs go overseas and may indeed buy another Harley in the future, but will ride my Vstar.

With HD buying MV they expand their market share and bring capital back to the HD coffers?

In a world market Companys have to do what will help their bottom line, and sure it sucks but look at the Big Three right now, they may go in to chapter 11,and 1000s of jobs go with them!

Yes buy American when you can but,do whats best for your bottom line!

If Harley's stock price continues to go as it has lately, we may actually get to buy a Harley from a foriegn owner.
