Hi! I bought my fltr last june and ride it to work every day. Rode it all winter, too, except for three or four days of REALLY bad weather. It's got 8000 miles on it and I want to change the oil and filters ( oil and air ). After the 1000 mile break in the dealer put in synthetic oil. I'd like to know if I should use the Harley synthetic or will any other brand, Amsoil, Golden Spectro, etc., be any better? Also I want to replace my oil and air filters and was thinking of using K+N Filters? HELP!

I recommend Amsoil oil and filter and a K&N air filter. Any shop can get you a K&N air filter. Stage 1 & Big Sucker are all K&N filters.
Amsoil is the best oil out there. Its heat reducing properties are second to none.

I like amsoil oil and use their oil filter too. I ride a road king now, but road a sporster before that. My sportster had 28,000 miles on it when I sold it. All but 5000 were with amsoil. I think amsoil was the first synthetic. I have also heard good things about mobil 1 synthetic as well. I use the amsoil oil in all three holes.

I have 6k + on Amsoil in all three - Trans, primary, and engine. All 20/50. I like it. But to answer your question, you can use whatever oil you want. Don't use anything with friction reducers in the primary.

I run syn 3 in the motor, and HD plus 1 in the trans and primary. Change the motor oil every 2500, change the other two every 10m. Just bought a new "lifetime filter" made by K & P Engineering. It has a cleanable screen, and a built in magnet. Putting it on this weekend. My riding buddy put his on a few weeks ago, and just changed his oil this last weekend. The magnet picked up some fuzzy stuff. His bike has 53,000, 04 Road Glide, and he changes his every 2500 or so.

Amsoil now offers dry synthetic nanofiber air filters for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Offers the best filtration and reusable for 100,000 miles. Amsoil air filters for Harleys.
