Please, does anyone out there have any experience or knowledge of why all the bolts may back out of a spocket, I had it "fixed", bolts locktited back in.Then two weeks later, they ALL wrung off into the spocket? I found one bolt by luck. It was Chrome, and was literally severed about a quarter of an inch from bottom, then cut almost in half, bent so badly it was like a "C". The badly bent bolt caused it to ream out a hole in the sprocket, and the hub was destroyed. Now I also have to have my wheel relaced. They tried to tell me the bolts were factory. Why would Harley put chrome, unhardened bolts into a black sprocket?
Help. I am female, but could have died if it had seized up.

Once the bolts loosen on a sprocket you might as well change the bolts and sprocket because you will never keep them tight from my experience. I had one loosen and it looked fine. Tightened it to specs with lock-tight and it loosened again. Sprocket looked fine. This time I used new bolts ( Tightened to specs with lock-tight )and it loosened again. Third time I replaced bolts and sprocket
and that took care of it. I was told if your sprocket gets wore where your belt
rides or belt is run loose it could work the sprocket and loosen the bolts. I do
know if it happens again I will replace Bolts and sprocket. How many miles on the bike when you notice they were loose? I do not know about the chrome bolts and if Harley used them. Did you buy the bike new? You buy used, you never know what your getting.(unless you know the person and bike.) Something like a loose
sprocket could be hazardous to your health. With everything new your problem should be cured. Lets HOPE. Have fun and ride SAFE.

Thanks, Kpapa. I had 6200 miles first time, and 6800 second time. The bike had 4100 when I got it. It was just like new. It's a 2005 Softail Deluxe and this scared the dickens out of me. I had just been 400 miles thru mountain twists and turns with the last hour of 75 mph on highway. We were 7 miles from home when my husband spotted movement that looked strange. Looking at his face beside me on his bike, I immediately pulled in the clutch and that's when it all broke loose.

With only 4100 miles the sprocket should not have been wore. Maybe the bolts were not tighten to spec from the factory or the bolts were changed to chrome and not tighten to spec. Guess you will never know but hopefully your problems are cured. That's great you ride your own bike. My wife has no desire to ride her own, besides I do not know what I would do if she was not on the back telling what to do. We've only been riding together 40+ years. She is like part of the bike. She is that special accessory that I love and take off the old bike and put on the new bike when I trade. Riding is what we love to do. When I got our new 05 Road King Custom she rode 15 about miles when she said pull over. I pulled over, she got off and said "she was not riding again until I got a new seat". I said "guess your not riding again". We love our new seat. We ride
when ever we can. We missed Rolling Thunder in Washington DC this year because
I had a shoulder operation. I will be back to riding this month. I'm not going to tell the Doc that I have gone out for a couple of short rides by myself. It was worth the pain. Have fun ride SAFE
