Can't comment on the softail except to say it is a beautiful bike. Riding a road king with a 6 speed tranny and loving it. Generally don't use 6th gear until I am above 70. Also the way the gears are spaced, I do less shifting up and down.

Thanks for your reply, Guess I wont be using 6th gear much as I am in a rural area w/50 mile speed limits, 60 maybe 70 will put me in the slammer. Picking up the Deluxe on the 7th of July and the Vulcan 1600 I am driving will be going to a new home. Thanks again, Ontario Biker

I have one of the "old" 5 speeds, and I wish I had another gear. But, only on the hiway. Haven't heard any real bad comments about the 6 speed. Some questions come up about if it's just another gear, or is it an overdrive?

I forget what gear I am in now with my 5spd. A six speed would only make it worst. I am old so I guess I have a good excuse. There is just something about
a Harley. My nephew has an 06 Street Bob with a 6spd. He likes it. When we ride
together his motor is not working as hard as mine. He only uses 6th on the interstate but it still geared different 1st thur 5th than the 5spd. What color
is your new ride? Hope you like it as much as I like my RKC. Have fun and ride safe.

The 6th gear is not an overdrive. It is 1:1

kpapa, its black in color, and always needs cleaning i know, didnt have a choice but got a great deal and wanted a Harley no matter what color, although the whitewalls sure stand out on the black background (Im Happy).
The 1600 Vulcan I have now has the gearing right, never looking for that higher gear and lots of torque at bottom end.
The Harley dealer says the riders have to make a attitude adjustment and all will be well re the 6 speed.

I call my ride Cherry.(05 Road King Custom 25k miles) My brother calls his ride Black Betty.(05 Road King 31k miles)He is single and has more time to ride. My sons ride is called Lonely (05 Springer Classic 11k miles) Lonely because he dose not ride as much as we do and my nephew calls his Holly (06 Street Bob 12k miles). Have fun and ride safe.
