I think you should be happy with that. They are rockets, so watch the throttle for a while.

Great bike, can't wait to see pix from the trip. Check out RiderWearhouse for gear, and also, WhiteHorse press for gear and books.

To Burninator: I take safety very seriously and I will be sure I know the bike and the throttle and will ride within my limitations and sensible boundaries - doesn't mean I won't be pushing the envelope out as I become comfortable on the bike. Thanks for your advice.

To RideSlow: Standby for Pix; my BIG plan is to ride to Panama with 22yo son leaving US of A around September 4, 2008. In the meantime, I am on the search for a way of taking pictures of myself in motion - like a tripod and laser shutter release or something like that.

Going out of country on a motorcycle? Spend some time reading the Horizons Unlimited web site, and sign up for the email newsletter, amazing folks traveling many places, should be some good info.

I have two half-brothers and a half-sister that were raised in Panama. It's supposed to be a beautiful place, but the roads that way were pretty bad the last time he drove. This was over 15 years ago, so hopefully they are improved.

Thanks for the Horizons Unlimited web site - sounds like a great source; I've got significant MC time in Mexico, but going through Central America will be a new experience for me. I am in touch with Ron W. who has ridden all the way to the southern tip of South America and back and that's a big help.

I have done a non-MC holiday in Panama and I have to say that it is an "undiscovered" holiday destination with low prices, great scenery, good beaches, more eco-diversity than Costa Rica. Also a little dicey as one gets past Panama City, so we are going to be careful how far that way we venture - that would be toward the notorious Darien Gap.
