I am planning one trip in August, a change from our normal September date. Too much snow in the passes on the last one, consensus is August this time. Doing it a bit different, going to try to find one area for a base, then loop out of there each day, maybe not so high daily mileage, but actually stop, check out the eats, and get some decent pictures. Thinking about Spokane or thereabouts for Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho; or Pendleton or Prineville for Eastern Oregon and Southern Idaho.
Next big trip under consideration is a run to Reno/Sparks for the Air Races in September, then east on 50, 'Worlds Loneliest Highway'.
Planning a couple of overnights to southwest Washington too, but that is about it.

as a Spokane resident, I can say this is a prime base for some fantastic rides. Do you camp or motel? you can spend at least a week doing day rides based from here, there are also some amazing 2-3 day trips that incorporate E.WA, idaho and east oregon. there's some pix at my blogof my cruisings of these three states last summer.
I'd rather be odd than get even

Last year we trailered the bike to Dallas (600mile) to visit the wife's sister... Then we headed south to the Gulf, then east to New Orleans (a real highlight of the trip), spent the night in the Quarter, then headed east, along the Gulf, till we hit the Atlantic ocean... then North and west and back to Dallas... Great Ride!
This year we're going back to the Rockies... Probably ride up Mt. Evans this time, instead of Pikes Peak... The mountains never seem to disappoint.. (VStar1300 Tourer)

We credit card camp, following is an excerpt from my post on 10-09-07 in "Where did you ride today?"
"We pulled into Davenport, slowing in the 30 zone, just in time to thwart the local Ford Interceptor. The proprietor of the Black Bear Motel just happened to be by her office as we pulled in, and she was able to set us up with rooms that were small, but clean, and we could turn the heat on enough to dry out. Very nice lady, she and her husband are putting together a very nice small motel, with a gift shop and a western motif."
I would like to use the Black Bear as a base, but we try to find restaurants that are in or walking distance to the motel, and the good ones in Davenport all require gearing up and riding over. I am considering Spokane, would like to ride the Spiral Highway, and find some other gems

Our first LONGER ride of the New Year comes in five weeks--March 27-30. Two groups will converge on Northern Arkansas (around Eureka Springs).
My group will come from Paducah, KY. Four riders, three HD and a BMW. My brother's group from near Wichita, KS--possibly three Gold Wings.
Our plan is to camp at Iron Horse Stables, a MC campgroud Thursday-Sunday AM. We will ride several twisties in the Ozarks. Friday will be our longest day as we get in about 280 miles from NW AR to the Arkansas River valley and Mt. Magazine--AR highest point, then back up scenic Hwy 7. Saturday will be another day of twisties. Each group will head home on Sunday.
We're hoping for good weather--it can be dicey that time of year.
I have a one-day trip planned for the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas. I'm out there for business trip and am adding a 24-hour rental ride for the day. I've never seen the Grand Canyon--so this will be a great way to see it.
That's it for now.

My brothers and I were raised in Arkansas, but our motorcycle riding during our youth was all off road. Now that we are older and have street bikes--we are looking forward to riding the roads we grew up on--but were strapped in to the back seat of the family car.
If anyone is in NW AR at this time--look us up. I contacted Iron Horse Stables this week--they are opening the MC resort on March 15th. Again--hoping for good weather.

Hey Just joined the forum but a Rider subscriber for years. last year my big trip was to Deals Gap and the surrounding area. Went to Lookout Mountain and Chicamunga(sp?) I've taken several trips over the years. Lived in KS and went to Lake of the Ozarks once then all the way across MO to the Boot Heel then across AR to the lakes in the west then up to Table Rock. I put almost 1800 miles on that trip. THis year I hope to go back down to TN and NC but go through Eastern KY and Cumberland Gap. The roads in AR are great, just watchout for the tar snakes in summer. My some day trip is to go back to Germany, this time as a civilian and on a bike!
