I am going riding on the first, breakfast in Auburn, and then ride around, have lunch, and go home. You are welcome to come along. Details to follow.

I stepped out on the front porch last night for a breath of fresh Michigan night air and slipped on a thin layer of fresh ice. After I tobogganed down the concrete steps on my back, I lay at the bottom assessing which parts of me no longer worked. My back, head and right forearm were all candidates.

No serious harm done this time, thankfully. A few bruises and a 2-Bayer headache. Little events like this make me appreciate body armor and helmets, even though the bikes have been put up for the winter.

Michigan is a helmet state, and there are those who want to see that law repealed. I am not one of them. Maybe the insurance companies benefit the most from states which mandate the use of helmets - I don't know. I'm just a guy who has broken 2 helmets against trees, and have scars on the current helmet from bouncing off the pavement after a 4-wheeler broadsided me on the road.

I can't join you on your ride, Ride_Slow, and maybe you're wondering what the above babble has to do with a new year's ride. Just this: Conditions here do not allow a rider of my ability an enjoyable ride. If you ride tomorrow, ride safe, wear you gear, and know my thoughts are with you.

Thank you, I hope to have some decent photos at the end of this. Actually looking like it might be in the 40's!!!!

Happy New Year!

Here is the route for anyone that wants to come, or read your maps and think about the sunshine.

Iron Horse Casino
333 15th ST NE
Auburn

Plan on hitting the Sumner Buckley Highway, aka Rainier Beer Rd, SB on Mundy-Loss, WB SR162, SB Oroville, WB Kapowsin HWY, SB 7, WB 702, W & SB 507 to Centralia, 5 S to SR 6, and W to SR 101, and S to South Bend. Lunch, then discuss route for return. WSDOT advises one location on SR 6 reduced to one lane.

I awoke at 5:30 to the sounds of a snow plow stuck in the road in front of my home. Never a good riding day when the snow plows get stuck.

Hope your ride is a great one!

I was over in Union WA on 12/28 thru 12/30 that area has gotten 5" of snow last week and the drive on 106 along the canal was very slick, I was driving a car? I'm just going to stay around this area! I was warming up the Bike Yesterday Thinking about it, I received a call from a friend wanting me to head up to Granite Falls area but getting back was Going to be the tricky part!

120 miles on a great day to ride, bikes everywhere!!!!!

Changed route, continued south on Oroville, thru Eatonville, and had lunch at the Scaleburgers in Elbe. Going to take a nap, and warm up. Will put some pictures later.
