I keep track of significant rides in a notebook, so I just noted at the top of the page my mileage when I started out yesterday, will be hoping to get back in the 10,000 + column for 2008.

Brand new to this site. Been riding 32 years. Close to 600,000 total miles with no crashes, only a few laydowns. Rode my city bike (07 Road King Police) 15,000 miles in 07. Only rode my personal bike (00 Electra Glide with 76,000 miles on it) about 8,000 miles. Took my annual cross country trip by car last summer (long story). I've ridden from South Florida to just about everywhere I've ever wanted to ride to over the years. Alaska, Nova Scotia/Newfoundland(twice), all of the lower 48 and 9 provinces of Canada but still missed alot cause always had to be back to work by a certain date. Retiring in 6 months and hitting the road for 3 or 4 months. Looking forward to being able to ride with no schedule.

Welcome to the board. Lots of good info, be sure and visit the American V Twin side of the forum, some great folks there. Thanks for your service on the thin blue line, I did my 29 and out, now have a part time job that allows much more 2 wheel time. If you like reading maps, check out Byways

Congratulations mcjack!
Sounds like you are about to close one hell of a career. I'm sure you will find the people on this board to be very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Both boards, the American and Metric are great.
Probably be swapping tales with you.

My first year as a motor officer, I was trained in June, but not assigned a bike until November. Rode in snow on Thanksgiving, and dry cold in December, saw a readout of 16 degrees on the bank sign. When admin saw how nuts we were, they made a rule that the motors could not operate if the temp was below 35.

I have a windchill chart next to my PC. Hell it starts clocking at 40 deg. You being at 16 deg. must have been one hell of a ride!

It was painful, we would shove the gloves in by the engine, during a traffic stop, and could only go for about an hour before we were back in Denneys trying to get warm.

Coldest temp I've ever ridden in was 23 degrees. It was just a couple of weeks ago actually. My car struck a piece of vinyl siding that was blowing across the rode and punctured the radiator. Needless to say I was without a car for a week. Forced to ride the bike to work I had to brake my own rule of not riding below 35 degrees.
I've put 5,000 miles on my bike in 9 months just commuting to work and put 5,000 miles on my car in twelve. Normally drive the wifes car on week ends.
