Having read the article by Joe Minton, I purchased a Cobra Fi2000R O2 for my 2008 HD Superglide. My bike is totally stock. I was planning a trip out west next year and I have been worrying about the "heat" problem. I installed the Cobra without any problem, with the recommended settings for a stock bike. The bike does seem to run better, without a doubt. I have about 3000 miles on her, so I would beleive she is broken in. In my daily travels, I was getting around 43 miles to the gallon. After the Cobra installation, I dropped to 36. After calling Cobra, and informing them of my displeasure with the mileage, the tech told me that the green pot (cruise) was not adjustable and to disconnect the Cobra, that I provbably didn't need it. Hey Joe Minton, what's up with this? Any advice from anyone? I really didn't want to spend the money on a "stage 1", I just wanted to take care of the heat.

You probably should have bought an oil cooler being that Harley has somewhat addressed the lean fuel issue, there is not much need for a new fuel management system if you have no changes to manage. You bike runs better because its getting more fuel and that should reduce heat due to a lean condition but you also lose fuel mileage. I also think there are better systems out there than Cobra, that doesn't mean it won't work, but I would suggest you do more research in advance to buying such an expensive system. Everyone has there own reason for picking a particular system and the Magazines reason could be that Cobra was the only one to send a free system or something to that nature.

I agree with everything 1Big'n has said above. I had considered a Cobra 2000 EFI this summer but went with a Power Commander USB III instead. (I didn't want to mess with lifting the gas tank to access the fuel injectors. I have an Ultra Classic) Upon installation I did notice slightly better performance but no reduction in heat. My fuel mileage stayed about the same. 35 to 32 mpg daily commute duty. You will notice a greater reduction in engine heat by going with an oil cooler and Amsoil synthetic oil. Screaming Eagle 110 ci motors come standard with an oil cooler, your 96ci motor is only 14ci smaller. Think about it.
Your options are: Remove the Cobra EFI, sell it on EBAY and by an oil cooler. Or adjust the two lower pots on your EFI just a hair every fill-up until you achieve your fuel mileage. Or buy another EFI system.
Personally, I'd go with the first option.

I agree with synthetic as the best choice for your engine oil, have used it for years and it works. Amsoil is a great product. I personally have used the Ness Big Shot to boost my fuel injection performance, yes it requires rasing the tank, but that is the most difficult part of the process and the results are worth the small effort. Mileage can go up, down, or stay pretty much the same, depends on how it is adjusted, which by way is very easy. Jury is still out on the oil cooler, I personally don't like the looks but whatever works for you go for it.

Last summer I posted on the oil cooler issue on my 07 Softail. Looked at the Power Commander and other options. Dealer played dumb not hard for them. Went with the oil cooler, reduced temps 20-30 degrees. Went with the Harley cooler left the cover off for max airflow. I may install a power commander but it will be for power not oil temp

What do you guys think of the SERT? My local tuner (not HD Dealer either) recommends not buying any new computer but instead buying a (KEY) they call it to re-tune the existing 'puter, they say it is similar to buying the SERT but $200+ bucks cheaper.

I thought about buying the SERT anyway as well as the Fueler...

Just an update. I got a reply from someone on the hd forum who also installed the Cobra Fi2000 O2. It turns out the the tech I spoke to was wrong, that the green pot is adjustable. I beleive this will solve my problem, but I'm not going to play with it till spring. I DID research before buying such an expensive item and felt that this was the best bang for my dollar now and if I decide to do a stage one. No downloads, no dyno, just adjust it with a screwdriver. Thanks for the replies.
