Time of year? suggested routes? Any input at all would be good.
I am thinking the second week in May as it will not be 100 degrees yet, and I am hoping that the mountains will be dry and not freezing.
I need to make it down there in 4 days and I am riding a 2004 Honda CBR 1000RR. I have taken it to Canada and back twice, this would be about a 2k round trip. the trip to Arizona should be about 3k round trip or more.
Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

I was down there in later part of April and rode around AZ, The south rim of the canyon is open Weather is Good but can get very cold! North Rim opens May or so. The Laughlin Ride is end of April, Something to Consider!

Am I hearing take this trip in early June as I might freeze to death? Not to mention what going over the Oregon range at that time might be like as well.
Thanks for the reply

Are you planning on Interstates? Or finding some really interesting back roads? Mapquest says it is only 1200 miles, approx., so 4 days should be easy. I would suggest logging into each states tourist site, and requesting a map, and then looking closely at any passes on your route. Log in before you leave, to see what the weather looks like, and plan accordingly. As far as getting out of Oregon, just pounding east on I-84 along the Gorge should do the trick, no passes there. If you have any friends with AAA membership, see if you can get one the the regional maps, really makes it easy to get an overview of where you want to go.

I am a member and when you flash your card they give you about $100.00 in maps free. It's a pretty good deal.
I thank you for the feedback. I want to stay away from the interstates but at times it might be unavoidable. I have about 5 and 1/2 days to get there and about 5 1/2 days to get back, with about 4 days to spend when I get there.

Buy a road atlas, one of those big suckers with the spiral binding. It'll get ya most anywhere.
Come down to Las Vegas, ride across southern Utah national parks (Rts 12, 95), down thru Monument Valley then west to the Canyon. Fantastic roads! Uh, how much time do you have to make the trip?

Not knowing how much time or money you have; it looks like you should come down thru California, then over to Las Vegas, be sure and spend the night, then Hoover Dam to Grand Canyon, then North thru Utah heading home...

The last Atlas I bought was the large print Truckers Edition, treated pages and a spiral binding. It is great when traveling on 4 (or more) wheels, and good for planning, but too bulky to carry on the bike. See if you can scrounge a HOG atlas from one of your HD riding buddies, they are downsized, and have pretty decent info.

Ride_slow, atlas rides in the bottom of the tourpak, much better, larger detail, more roads than the HOG atlas, plus the HOG atlas costs twice the road atlas.
