Interesting how things that may affect those around us due to our behavior become issues of personal freedom when they are challenged. I have no problem with someone doing what they want, just as long as it does not infringe upon my right to do what I want. I also believe that I do not have a right to impose my beliefs or habits on others, I personally do not smoke or ever have, yet what right do I have to go into an environment where people do and then complain about it? I addressed the noise issue over 5 years ago as Director of our local HOG Chapter, not an in your face diatribe, but a thoughtful and fact filled informational presentation of what might happen if members kept acting irresponsibly. The reception I received was rather negative to say the least, I expected it though so the butt hurt was minimal. Look where we are now. If this country keeps going the way it is we will inevitably adopt the European model for motorcycle noise and safety standards, as an AMA member we are constantly fighting this and hope that it never happens. ABATE is also on board with this and has worked hard with their lobbying powers to protect our rights as bikers. I realize all of this is difficult to stomach, but also realize that we, as bikers, must keep a constant vigil on what goes on in our world. No one else will.

As you can see, I don't understand this "I have the right to do whatever I want whenever I please" thing...
Fine... well I know it pisses you off when the guy with the boom boom stereo gets in your ears...
But how about me reroofing my house at 4am in the morning???
But how about me tuning my stockcar at 2 am in the morning???
But how about my dog barking all night long next door to you???
But right.... noone but a dumbass can say that they have the right to make as much noise, with their stupid motorcycle, as they wish!

I got to get in on this. It's not that some folks want loud pipes so much as they want loud pipes to say " Hey, look at me. Ain't I cool upon my Harley". If people would just ride their respective motorcycles for the shear love of it as oppose to trying to make a statement, we would all be better off as a community.

I think it is so funny that the true hardcore biker, that so many us might be mistaken for, couldn't care less about these new laws. Here we are fussing about the noise ordinances while they truly ride free. All you have to do now to be an outlaw biker is have loud pipes!
