I have 'em and love 'em. ("07 FLHRC)
Having said that, I realize that there are those who need to hear their radio, etc.
Am going coast to coast to coast next Spring and do not want to run afoul of the man vis-a-vis a loud bike.
I understand that several cities (Denver, Albuquerque) either have or are considering ordnances specifically directed at motorcycles with either after market or loud exhaust. I am sure there are more, and would not want to ruin the trip of my life with a ticket.
Anyone out there with any experience and or knowledge about this - or recommendations of places to avoid?
Thanks

I live in Denver, and have been riding around like I live here since the new law passed. They, as far as I know, haven't enforced it yet. They haven't enforced it on me anyway. I didn't think, and still don't now with evidence to prove it, that they will enforce this except in extreme cases. I believe that anyone could ride through the city(Denver), and not get hasseled. Colorado Springs has always been more of a noise law enforcer that Denver. Bikers have been getting tickets down there for a long time, even before any new laws. So, be careful if you go into the Springs. I would stay around Manitou Springs, nicer, more interesting, closer to Pike's Peak too. Then take Highway 285 down to NM.

Add Myrtle Beach SC. to your list and they do enforce it. That is to say if you ride like an a$$ they will pull you over and give you a $150.00 ticket, and they seem to pray on the younger guys. Last year this guy rolled his bike off of the trailer and fired it up, ticket. I think the cops pray on the younger guys knowing that there going to be out all hours of the night raising h&ll. I think if you ride like you have some common sense you'll be fine, its the hot dogs that get most of the heat.

Well, one thing about it, the public doesn't like our loud motorcycles; soooooo, it's time for us to quiet down our bikes.

New Hope, PA is notorious for loud pipe citations.

Quiet down my bike? I don't think I heard that. Maybe I've had my pythons on too long. I kinda like it that way.

It's just about common courtesy. There are some obnoxiously loud pipes out there. I can hear them on the main road two blocks away. They wouldn't wake me from a sound sleep, but what about the people living on the main street? I have pipes I like, and they just happen to not be soooo loud. I think it's all about being nice, and considerate of others.

Just stand on the street corner of any major city and listen....
What do you hear??? or what don't you hear??
You will be amazed at how quiet buses have become and how quiet 95% of cars have become and even how quiet construction equipment has become... What you will hear are the jerks on motorcycles riding around with NO Baffles...

And notice how much quieter your new lawn mower sounds...

It's time for us to quiet down... Those people that turn their heads to watch you ride by are not admiring your bike or thinking how pretty you are... Many of them are annoyed by your noise... You are polluting their space!
You know who you are...

I think that's bull, we've had enough liberties taken away from us it's time to stand up for individuality, after all isn't that what riding a Harley is all about. At every corner we are being told what to do, don't smoke within 25 feet of the office door or at the ball park, or in your own condo. Wear a helmet, put on a seat belt, pay $3.49 for diesel, and 3.29 for gas, where does it end. My deceased grandfather had a foot long cigar that he smoked everywhere, and I have a 3" Salem and a pair of Rineharts, so wake up because I'll be ROARING down your street one night soon at 3:00 am. and don't pi$$ me off or I just might remove the baffles and circle back later! I think that should stir the pot sufficiently.

I think that is the attitude we are talking about. What about the person you wake up? What happened to his liberties? If that were you, what would you say? Would you still think the biker has the "right" to run his loud a$$ bike around your house at 3am?

Here is an idea for everyone who thinks that their liberties are being taken away. Move to ANY OTHER country. Then write to the rest of us about your liberties. Or, move to Montana. No sales tax, no adult helmut law, insurance is low, license and registration is low, in fact motorcycle registration is permenant. That's right, forever, and ever. It's the fourth largest state land wise, but somewhere around 46-49th in population. Land is cheap, relatively speaking. And the daytime speeding limit is called "Careful and Prudent". Yes, there are two speed limits. One for daytime, and one for night time. The roads are long and desolate. Not nessessarily straight. And as far as I know, no strict noise laws. I love Montana, but I live in Denver.
