Uh...you missed my point. I don't want a Harley or one that looks like one (and yes I can afford one).
I think a high performance 1200+ cruiser with 4 into 4 exhaust would be my next bike if there was one out there.

Although it's a V-twin, the Yamaha Warrior is a great performance cruiser. It's good looking, too especially when the Hoover looking, super-sized muffler is replaced with an aftermarket unit.

Ya could always buy a V-Max. 1200cc and they are still making them. I think it would be a nice alternative to a older Magna.

My day-job is designing new engines, so we could discuss engine technology all day and still have material left for tomorrow. That being said...
The bikes offered for sale today are all SO GOOD, I wouldn't (personally) restrict my opportunities to a specific engine configuration. I started life on a single, went to a parallel twin, in-line 4, 2 big V-twins, a couple more in-line 4's and lastly a small (650) v-twin. I have loved them all.
I have never owned a Harley and probably never will. Not because I think they don't make good bikes - I think they do. I think they offer fewer choices of engines and riding styles than other manufacturers, but if they offer one you like - God's speed my friends.
I wondered about the Yamaha RoadStar (?) that had a V-4 in it after I was on a Vulcan that just didn't have the smile-making performance I was looking for. Unfortunately, the owners of these Yamahas held them fairly dear, and I chose not to pay the big dollar for a used machine. So I rode the Kaw until I found the next diversion. The BMW 800 parallel twin is holding my fancy at the moment - not because it's a parallel twin, because I like the feel of the bike.
Open your minds to the universe of bikes available to you and choose one or more that puts a smile on your face.
Have fun.
Ride safe.

"...That should end with "account for only a fraction of motorcycle riders".
Might add... "a very very SMALL fraction"!

I own two Honda Magnas and have ridden many other cruiser bikes. The only cruisers that I really enjoy riding are the V4's as well as the Vakyries. I have test ridden different V twins including harleys, hondas, suzukis, kawasakis and so on. Every time I rode away the buzz went through my body of the chugga chugga as the two pistons wound up. More so on some than others but always that shake. When I left the test ride on my Magna it was like rollerblading on fresh pavement. No shake, no chugga chugga, just twist the throttle for power up to 10gs on the tach and can get 50mpg. Run into the corners and lean without fear of dragging parts. Run circles around most V twins. I am not a harley wannabe as those that think its a harley are quickly corrected. Perhaps if I was weaned on a Vtwin I may be more favorable to them but learning on an inline 4 smooth is the ride I seek. Have an open mind and ask a buddy to ride his Magna, you wont be dissapointed. Hey Honda wake up and bring back the Magna!Check out my Magnas: http://nebular10.tripod.com www.BikerEventPhotos.com

I caught that little "barb" too! I don't understand the subtle "hits" we get from them now and then. Too bad. I mean, if I were going to bash a HD rider I would not be subtle about it ...... because ....... they wouldn't get it.
Oh **** .... here we go again.
The Hatfield's and the McCoy's are at it again!
Just kidding

I just think an updated Magna could be the next "hit". I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I too love gear-drive-cam v-4 motors (V-Four Victory!). But knowing Honda they would just screw it up. I've been dreaming of a modern Honda Hawk GT, something that would give the SV650 and now the Kawasaki 650 a run for its money. But Honda wouldn't get it right.
IMHO, Honda has become nothing more than a car company with a motorcycle division. Their motto should become "maybe next year we'll do something cool".

They gave up gear-driven cams on their Interceptor, so I imagine the Magna wouldn't have them either.
