Hey riders, jump in here and talk about where you are riding.

My wife and I just got back from a 1600+ mile round trip to DC from Nashville!

Except for the *really* dangerous weather last Friday night, we had a great time, not just in DC but throughout the beautiful state of VA. The Skyline Drive in particular was gorgeous.

Shawn, very interesting web site, I will listen to the pod cast later. Tell us more about the area you ride in. I was looking back thru the pages, where you were asking about stuff to take. Check out this site, and scroll down on the right to checklists. They are easily modified, and saved.

Lots of other good M/C stuff there, too. In addition, there is a newstand only magazine named Motorcycle Escape, comes out 3 or 4 times a year, covers travel here and abroad. The latest issue covers some roads in eastern Washington and Idaho, that I have ridden with some good friends, very well done.

Thanks! Let us know what you think.

Mostly the middle TN area - Nashville is our base but we frequently ride to Cookesville (east), Clarksville (NW) and any other place our fancy takes us.

But we have plans for longer rides - we just got back from DC and Dallas, New Orleans, and Chicago are in our immediate future!

Interesting mag - I've already got a subscription.

Did you find their descriptions of roads you personally have travelled on to be accurate?

I will have to listen to the pod cast at work, connection here is too slow.

I have traveled in your neck of the woods. My wife and I plan on being fully retired by 2010, and will be working our way through the country, she is more of the fly in and stay at the Marriott, I run towards 2 wheels and a tent.

As I was reading the magazine, I felt I was back on those rides. We didn't take the same routes completely, but the sections that overlapped were accurate. I have taken pictures in several of the same locations, but the magazine shots look way better.

Took my first highway ride Sunday morning. Figured I would not run into too much traffic. I live just outside Phoenix, Arizona and rode up to a popular little place called Wickenburg. The temps started out about 53 and was 85 when I got back. A little over 120 miles round trip. Drove around town for a while, stopped and had breakfast and then headed for home. I have only been riding for about 2 weeks now. It was fun, managed to get my speed up to see what it felt like. Can not imagine what it must be like to ride without a windshield at a 100+ mph. Has got to be a trip! As always, looking forward to my next ride.

Yeah, I've gone just over 100 without a windshield and I can tell you that I don't plan on doing it again. Far to scary and you have to hold on for dear life. You are not missing much.

I've done it.....*once*.....no fun at all.....If I'm just puttering around town, I'll take my shield off (I'm lucky - my Royal Star has a quick release windshield) but for longer rides or anything on the interstate, I leave it on. It's amazing the difference it makes.

Leading a group ride from Richmond,VA up to the Blue Ridge Mts this weekend for some barbecue. Done it before, usually take Rt 6, gotta find another way. Pull out the state map book, look it over. There it is, little orange dotted line, oh boy. We ride up Wednesday morning. Still have to take Rt 6 out of Richmond, but turn north on Rt 20, then west on state Rt 712. Oh boy what a roller coaster! Can't believe I haven't been on this road before. Cross Rt 29 onto Rt 692, gets even better. Then left on Rt 635. this road is the equal of the other two, but narrower. Man, what a ride!!

I just picked up my first bike a little over a week ago after a 2 year search for something I liked. Been out on it as much as possible learning it. This past Saturday I had it out for a ride through the Metroparks. In total it's about a 60 mile semicircle around all of Cleveland, however I just traveled through about 20 of it, along the Rocky River. Nice smooth pavement with light traffic, banked turns, and a nice mix of sun and shade.

Dropping into the valley to start, there's virtually nobody on the road. A couple cars here and there but a surprising amount of bicycles. The speed limit is 30 so it's a nice cruising speed, and with some elevation changes and plenty of turns it's a lot of fun. I only passed a handful of riders throughout the day before emerging from a spur that is conveniently near my girlfriend's, but she's out with her sister. I keep on going through town, trying the bike out on some main roads with moderate traffic. Everyone is nice enough to stay away from me, so no troubles there. I check the time and realize I need to get back, so I took the bike on the highway for the first time. There's plenty of cops watching the road around here so I'm doing maybe 10 over in a 60. For the most part I'm hanging with traffic, and trying to go faster but with a cold wind and only a long sleeve t-shirt on under my jacket, it took all I had to not shiver! After about 10 minutes I get off near to my house and take the surface streets back to my house, call it a successful day.

I can't wait for a little more heat!
