Hey guys. I was wondering if any of you guys knew a way of making a 50cc scooter go faster. I've been riding my scooter (QM50) for a while and it does about 35mph on full throttle. I'm not sure if it's even possible to go any faster on 50cc scooter, but any input will be appreciated. Thanx and Merry Christmas!

well.........yes, you can make anything faster. exhaust, head work, bigger cam, gearing changes.........$$$$$$$$ of course, you have to consider the availability of the parts and how much money you want to spend. i realize, not everyone can go out and buy a new ride, however, putting a ton of coin into somehting that's highest speed might end up to be 50mph is........well........a waste. not to mention, increasing your scooters speed, more than likely, will out perform it's brakes and handling capabilities. end result: more money. long story short: enjoy what you have now, learn to ride safe and get a bigger ride.
ok....i just looked up what a QM50 was. not likely. unless you find someone who makes an aftermarket exhaust. considering the scoot only costs $899.00 MSRP, i would't throw any money into it. if the top speed is 35mph, consider yourself lucky, since the spec sheet says "top speed-33mph". you're already ahead of the game!!!

These things come out of the factory with a restrictor fitted to them, so all you need to do is take it to a garage and have it derestricted (maybe the one you got it from would know how to do this for you?)
My little 50cc scotter was restricted to 30mph at full throtle but when it was derestricted it got up to 50mph easy (no joke!) and I'm sure urs will be capable of simaler speeds
Anyone can walk on water, i've done it myself. just wait untill the lake freezes . . .

you mean a "governer" or a part needs to be removed, resticting it from going any faster?

something like that. . .all I know is mine did 30mph flat out, I paid £50 they swapped this bit with another bit and then it did 50mph. Daichans should be the same as mine and everyone over here who has a 50cc one gets it done.
There are quite confusing laws on motorcycles over here;
1 - at 16 you can only have a 50cc moped restricted to 30mph and u have to display "L" plates
2 - at 17, as a learner, you can ride up to a 125cc that produces no more than 14bhp
3 - at 17, but under 21, if u have ur full license you can only ride something that produces 33bhp or less for your first 2 yrs after getting a licence
4 - if you get your full licence after 21 then there are no restrictions on what you ride.
I've gone for option 1 and 3, most ppl go for just 1 or 2 which is why so many people over here get their mopeds derestricted.

ouch..........
guess we (USA) shouldn't complain....
at 16, you can get your permit. you have to wait 6 months to take your test. then, once you have your license, you have to take a seperate motorcycle test. (this would be for PA. other states, i have no clue) when i was 16, i took my permit test, got my permit and then took my license test in the same day. my motorcycle license i got 1 year later. that was 25 years ago though........

Thanx for the advise guys. Kiwi I haven't tried it yet, but as soon as i find the time I will. my girl friend's dad is gonna help me out with it since he's a mechanic himself. Hopefully it'll work so I don't have to worry about people ramming my ass on the road. lol

My dad had a 50cc Yamaha Vino for a few months. The top speed on it was around 20 miles an hour. Yamaha offered a hop up kit that "significantly" increased power on the scooter. The kit cost 250 dollars, if I remember correctly. Dad sold the scooter and bought something else before investing the money, so I can't say if it was worth it or not.
