Greenman, where do you plug this in- nascelle? If so, does the 12v plug replace one of the switches? If not, where does it go? I would like to put this in while my bike is apart.... thanks!

There is a vacant plug under the seat, behind the battery, that will accept that cord. Some models are switched, and some are hot all the time. I have one that is switched off the key, and when I install it, it will be in the back box on the Ultra. I have seen them mounted on the side cover.

Red I can't remember how exactly I did the throttle/idle cables, I used a needle nose, very long. But, I did do them a few times because I had to switch out the cables due to the fact that you can measure all you want, and still not have the correct length. I still don't, but it's better than changing cables. Changing handlebars on the RKC is a big fat pain. A shop was going to charge me $700. I see why. To their credit, the mech told me if I needed any help to call him and he would talk me through it. If my friends Dave the mech, Jim, and Keith didn't help me I would still eb without a bike or $700 poorer. Jim was the one who was the hands on help, the others were tech support. Good luck, and I will help as much as I can.

Thanks, Pay. I know what you mean - I already returned the brake line because it was the wrong size. I had to custom order one from Barnetts. I have the bars on and taped the cables to them and seems like I have plenty of room. I just hope my soldering is good, but we will see soon enough.

Gringo- I feel for you with all that travel- I haven't ridden in a week since the bike has been apart and I am getting the jitters... looking forward to my upcoming trip to Maine.

As for the plug under the seat, I will check for that when I get home. It may already be in use by something else I put on... thanks for the tip!

Hey Bros-

Bar Change Project Update-

Last night pulled the wires through the bars, put the switchhousings back on and the levers. Routed and connected the clutch at both ends, and buttoned up the transmission case. (Lesson learned- ball bears roll fast on garage floor so don't be clumsy like me and drop the transmisison case with the bearings in it. I did find them though...).

Today I will try to finish up the connection of the throttle and idle cables and fully secure the handlebar equipment and then start putting the nacelle back together. (Another lesson learned- these bikes are pre-wired for a cruise control. I didn't know that when I ordered by throttle cable, so I opted for one that does not accomodate cruise. No problem for me as I do not intend to add it, but it required me to circumvent that wire connection that the original throttle cable went through. I left that wiring intact and will most likely just strap tie it to the wiring on the backbone above out of site.)

I will keep you updated, but would also like to share some great resources for anyone else that intends to undertake this project.

First, I would like to thank Bandit from Bikernet for all his excellent tips on his website that are Roadking specific. His article entitled The Highbar Transformation The Highbar Transformation was a superb and (for Me) necessary supplement to the HD shop manual. In fact, it was probably the only reason I was able to figure out how the transmission and clutch went back together- his pics were great.

I also highly recommend his article entitled H-D Oil Cooler Install which I followed and was very helpful when I completed both my oil cooler install H-D Oil Cooler Install project.

Other useful resources I have stumbled along over time that some of you may appreciate: If you want brand name HD parts at a discount, get the part number and plug it in on the Zanotti's website. You will get their discounted price and they will ship to you direct without tax. It adds up when you buy a bunch of stuff.Zanotti's

A site I just found to order things from Drag Specialties Fatbook and Custom Chrome and other catalogues with 15% off is called Warehouse Direct up in Greenman's neck of the woods.Warehouse Direct I placed my first order from them so we will see how it goes, but they were and helpful on the phone so hopefully my shipment will arrive promply and in good condition.

Last but not least, I orderd Chaps for the long ride. They were custom made based on my measurements by a small shop called Casper's Leather. Casper's Leather What is unique to me about this place, besides great price, is that each pair is made of the highest quality thick leather. My chaps arrived quickly and the workmanship is awesome. They make each leg out of one single thick piece of leather so if you go down and are sliding down the pavement, you will be protected and not need to worry about seems ripping apart exposing your skin. Plus, they look pretty cool too- added bonus.

Well, thats it for now. Ride safe!
