I have two fishtails again. But, now theres another ratteling. Is it too much to ask to "balance" the engines? You balance a car engine and it gives you a little more power. Why not balance the Twin Cams? It just can't be good for stuff.

This is not a bash. I would like to hear what you all think of the below. I am vacillating like a mofo on who to vote for! I cannot decide.

McCain was "disappointed" that the secret service was required to purchase American made motorcycles. "Lastly, I am also disappointed that the bill will once again this year contain a department wide 'buy American' requirement, and specific language directing the secret service to purchase American made motorcycles. I firmly object to all 'Buy American' restrictions, as they represent gross examples of protectionist trade policy. From a philosophical point of view, I oppose such policies because free trade is an important element in improving relations among all nations, which then improves the security of our Nation. Furthermore, as a fiscal conservative, I want to ensure our Goverment gets the best deal for taxpayers and with a 'Buy American' restriction that cannot be guaranteed." At first I thought that this story could not possibly be true, but in about 30 seconds, I found the citations... here is one: Full Story

Very interesting stuff. (No political comment made by me).

I wasn't really looking for a politial comment, but an economic one.

Thats good. I can never keep my mouth shut anyway..

my thoughts:

1. I 100% agree with the Buy American concept. Whenever possible, I try to do that - I have never owned an import car in my life (except for one VW back in the 60s), and I have owned a TON of cars! There are foreign items I want, and can afford, but I have decided to stay USA whenever I have a choice.

2. It is getting harder to figure out what "American" is when it comes to products. I own Two Chryslers, and have owned many in the past, but one of my current two was built by Daimler Chrysler - so is it an American car or a German car? Its over 80% German parts but was assembled here. Many Toyotas and Hondas are the same, imported parts and US assembly.

I have decided to do what I do on everything else - make the best judgment I can. So I buy what I perceive as American, and I will let the nitpickers try to add up nuts and bolts, metric vs. SAE. I don't have the time to do that silliness anyway.

It seems this puts me in line with Obama and opposed to McCain. That really surprises me. I would have thought it would be the other way around! I am still not saying who I am voting for

I'm all about saving money. And McCain seems to be wanting to do that. After all he is a "conservative". But, I also think that the United States Government should buy, and use things that are "American". Now I'd like someone to define "American". Is that "American Made", as in made in America, or American owned, but made elswhere, or American owned, and made in America?

Payloader, I agree that it is tough to define what is made in america. I think there is a movement for a requirement to put the symbol of the nation of origin on goods. Considering that our manufacturing jobs have been falling away at light speed, there would probably be few american flags out there. I'd like to see it though. I try to buy american whenever possible. Stores are FULL of******made in china. Can't we make anything here anymore? It's sad.

When I was Commander of the American Legion Post had a salesman try to sell me U.S. grave Flags that were made in Japan. I have a supplier with Flags made in U.S.A. He said , But they cost a lot more. I told him,Cost is not the issue. I would not put a U.S. Flag that was made in Japan on a American Soldiers grave especially on the ones who fought the Japs. He said that they would not know the difference. No, but I would and that they fought for the U.S. and as long as I was Commander the Flags on there graves would be MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! I asked if he ever served in the Military. No he had not served. Told him he just does not understand it is about Honoring the ones who Fought for that U.S. Flag. It is more than just a piece of cloth to anyone who has served. When you go shopping for clothes try to find clothes made in the U.S.A. Good Luck! Have Fun Ride SAFE.

Think about it. Although our choices would be limited, if we only bought and sold American made products (including finding a way to power our vehicles and heat our homes) we'd be totally self sufficient. What a concept!!! If we keep giving away the farm, sooner or later.....we won't own the farm. I can't get into political discussions. I'll only say that both choices have alot to be desired.
