Holy crapola man! I was gonna call you today, but I forgot. Just like I forgot to call Greenman the other day. Happy labor Day to all y'all. Or non-labor day as the case may be.

I just put a new rear tire on the bike yesterday. I was riding home from work Thursday, and I was hearing this "ting" sound. It sounded like a piece of wire or something was flapping around under the bike. I went where I was going, parked, came out about an hour later and the rear tire was flat. A small piece of tread was ripped up, so there was this small flap of rubber was flapping against the saddlebag bracket that runs under the rear fender, that was what made the sound. The cords were showing, and air was leaking from that. I spent $220 for a new Metzler 880 Marathon 140, installed. I got 10,000 miles out of the first one. I think I was told that if I got 9000 out my rear Metzler that was good.

Oh and something I learned. I was quoted a tire price of $149 for the rear tire. I questioned that because I paid $100 for the front. I was told that a front tire is made differently than a rear tire. My rear is a 140 it's wider than my front, or the stock rear, but most of the price difference comes from the compound the rear is made from. I guess the rear is harder. That makes sense, but I guess I was under the impression that both tires were the same. I know it costs more to have the rear installed, but I never knew, or realized that the two tires were different. I still feel that that is not entirerly true, but I haven't paid attention enough to really know.

Pay,
They make those tires out of a compound so that they don't grow, vertically, under excessive speeds. Did you ever notice that most of the big chopper builders use Metzler tires??? That's so that they can keep that slammed look without having the tire rubbing on the fender. I like the way that the Metzlers handle. I'll keep buying them.

I had heard that. But, still didn't know the front and rear were made differently.

Maybe that's why they are made differently. From an engineering standpoint, I would think that the wider the tire....the more chance it has at growing vertically at a higher rate of speed. I'm thinking that the less wide the tire...the less it'll grow at a higher rate of speed. I could be wrong because I'm no engineer but if that's true, it would make sense to me. Honestly, I've never given it any thought until now.
