RE: mixing tires

I would say accident waiting to happen , not a good idea to ever mix tires of different construction on the same vehicle. IMHO Terry

RE: 2008 Victory Vision

I test drove one at my local dealership recently and was pleasantly surprised at the handling. Seemed real sure-footed and a plush powerful ride. While I was there they demonstrated the tip over protection which could be a useful feature as well . Styling is good but I thought the saddle bags were on the small side. Over all, I found a lot to like about the Vision.

RE: Where did you ride today?

Sunday we rode down to Gilchrist on Bolivar Penn. where we have a hole on the beach front where Hurricane Ike blew our Beach Camp away . County has just decided to allow building back on the Beach front. We haven't decided if we will or not. Looks strange seeing the dunes completely cleaned off and no houses for miles. Lots of people set-up and camping on the beach this weekend. We stopped for lunch and headed back home , made a nice 160 mile round trip. Terry

RE: ATGATT ? Do you ?

I was knocked off my Suzuki t500 late one night back in '72 by an 18 wheeler not paying attention on the Corinth St. viaduct in Dallas . Last thing I remember about that, was me trying to stay off the high curb as I rolled and the rear wheels of the 18 wheeler hopping over my bike as I skidded . Driver never stopped. Woke up in Parkland Hospital later with some roadrash and bruises but nothing broken except my Bell helmet , which the Doctor said save my life. Bike was totaled. So I consider Helmet, gloves and boots to be my minimum riding gear . Also, I never spend any time in what I call the danger zone on the highway next to an 18 wheeler, that I focus on keeping them in front or behind me . Preferably behind! Terry

RE: First bike help for newbie F rider

Kingchiefa - Welcome to the Forum . No , size wise, that kz1000 is not to big , but it all depends on you and your comfort level . And more importantly how adaptive you are to something like this . Taking the driving course will be an important step and don't be ashamed to get out in an empty parking lot somewhere to hone your slow speed skills . Good luck. Terry

ATGATT ? Do you ?

Something Greg said about wearing all the gear all the time got me wondering if others feel the same way about that . Personally , I do wear Helmet , gloves , and boots nearly every time I ride . But ,, I have not found a jacket that I can bear to wear in the hot humid summer afternoons here in the south . Much more likely to wear a long sleeve SPF 40 fishing shirt than a jacket . So I guess, I am making a trade off of safety for comfort . What about you ?

RE: A Beer or Two with Lunch

Good statistic's Payloader , real attention getter . I noticed another one that is on the DOT Website was that 45 percent of fatally injured motorcyclists did not wear helmets. Opinions vary I know and wearing a helmet is one of those " on again off again" laws here in Texas , but wearing one has saved me in the past. So I wear and recommend them . Terry

RE: Rider motorcycle comparos...suggestions?

I'd like to see that big bagger comparo , Ultra Classic-Vision Premium - Voyager , add Royal Star Venture S. Another one could be the Road Glide Base vs Vision Street , that they share the frame mounted Fairing set-up. All have piqued my interest lately. Terry

RE: Ride to The Oregon Coast

Bobmielke- What gorgeous pictures , my wife and I were there a couple of years ago . That lighthouse is said to be haunted , a marketing strategy for the Bed and Breakfast no doubt , but an interesting place to visit . We saw sea Lions basking in the sun on the beach there , wonderful area , perfect for motorcycling . We followed the coast down as far as Eureka Ca. , then back through the Redwood forest and wound up in Medford . River rafting the Kalamath out of Ashland Or. is another must do when the weather is warmer, fabulous trip. Good luck and ride safe. Terry

RE: A Beer or Two with Lunch

I'm with the majority opinion here , that I avoid spirits all together if out on a long ride . However , I wouldn't think a having beer with hamburger and fries at lunch is completely out of the question, depends on the circumstances. With respect to the fool calling everybody "idiot" for drinking beer , or having loud pipes, or a light bar for illumination . You are showing your colors here , that we can assume you are a recovering Alcoholic turn Evangelist that figures since you couldn't control yourself everybody else must be an idiot too.

RE: First bike help for newbie F rider

Saro - Sure reads like you have good instincts and are doing all the right things ,taking the courses, learning to ride, being prudent buyer etc. Go with your instincts and get the bike that fits you right now, if you are not concerned about trading up later . You'll ride and enjoy more and are less likely to develop any bad riding habits out of fear . Understand the limitations of the highway on the smaller bike though . My Grandfather used to tell me that what makes the best Horse and Rider are lots of wet saddle blankets. With some miles of practice behind you , you'll be trading up before you know it. Good luck Terry

RE: Miles per year?

Fewer every year. Last summer was probably around 3K and it wouldn't have been that much if my daughters didn't like to ride so much. Since I started trailering the bike I go more places, have more fun and get less tired. It is great to relax the 200 miles home at the end of a long day. Grippy Roger that Grippy . I bought some 10 foot aluminum ramps and built a chock ( sort of like Condor) to lock down my RoadStar a few years ago and have broadened my ride/explore horizons to no end. Load it in the Dura Max and head out . However I gave up on the travel trailer and sold it after about three years . I think they are great but can be a lot of work too. So we are just making Hotel arrangements instead now. Terry
