RE: Headed for Daytona this weekend.....
well, I tell you what......this has to be the COLDEST bike week on record...it was 'jes freezin' cold.....the ride down wuz miserable....the wind was howling out of the northeast..everybody I talked too wuz miserable.....folks were all bundled up in leathers...not a single bikini to be seen.....no flashing boobies....
get this...I stepped into the Iron Horse Saloon around noon yesterday....and it was EMPTY !!!!...I kid you not...EMPTY !!
Finally...although I looked at 100's of bikes....I never did see another bike with RB Racing pipes on ....
Coming back we had that wind in our face......and even though I was pretty leathered up....it was bitterly cold.....
Somebody forget to tell the weather man we wuz in Florida !!

...brrrr...gonna be in the low 30's when I leave....strictly against my " comfort rules"...but what can I do...bike week is like a siren song....I must go...I must go...I must go...

...I ride behind a windshield... got tired of bugs hitting my face at 80 mph.....and the wind trying to rip my head off......may not look cool....but dammit...I enjoy mah ride...
sheesh....I used to come home after ride on my sporty....my neck would be stiff as a board for hours....

...y'know..the Standard bars on mah Heritage are probable 15" or so....very comfortable...
...now I can see having apes that are 36" high as being problematic....

....well...once you git one.....you can't stop...I need one on my other shoulder now to " balance" things out...otherwise I'll walk with a lopsided gait....
...anyway...you can't see it with a long sleeve shirt on ...and you can barely see the bottom of the tat with a short sleeve on....I'd havta wear one of my sleeveless shirts.....
...still...it has given me some insight into the whole tattoo thing..which has always intrigued me...
...what was amazing to me...was the steady stream of people coming in to get tats.....
..it seems to be a good bizness too...the tattoo artist that did mine...works on a 50/50 split with the shop...they charge around $100 per hour....so they're pocketing $50 per hour....she probably " works" about 3-4 hours per day...so goes home with $200 per day...$1000 per week....plus tips....
...the place was very " clean"...all the needles and equipments come in sterilized packages, which are changed for each person....plus they go thru' an amazing amound of paper towels and other sterilizing stuff...anyway....like I said...no true biker dude oughta be seen widdout a tat :-)

...aw...g'wan, RideSlow...take the plunge....'jes git a teeny weeny tat...somewhere only yer wife kin see it.....
...while I was getting inked...there was a chick on the other side of the room getting her back inked...the design was actually very beautiful...I went over and looked...it was brilliantly done...the tattoo artist ( a woman ) was clearly a gifted artist...the tattoo was a very intricate face within a face with florals...
...I suppose not many will see it or appreciate it...
...on the other hand..there was a guy in there who was their " piercing" expert....who had his whole face tattooed to make it look like his face was cradled in a pair of hands.....it was completely bizarre...plus he had dem big ear plugs in and a variety of rings in a variety of places....one can only imagine what else and where else...
...while the procedure was not overly painful....more like an irritating scratch....mine is on my shoulder...I'm led to understand that getting tattoos near a bone can be horrific.....
....anyway...the deed is done...I'm very pleased with the end result...my tat is my daughters name intricately woven into a dream catcher design....
..I had promised my daughter in a wild and irrationable moment...that I would tattoo her name on my shoulder....my big mouth......getting me into trouble as usual....so I finally had to do it to save face with her...just one of the many things dads sometimes do for their daughters...

...I think the sportster is targeted at the female rider...'cuz it's smaller, supposedly lower and lighter and less powerfull...
...I think my Heritage has a lower seat than the sporty....
..having had a sporty for several years....I think the big twin is a much easier bike to handle....
..the sporty does have it's moments....it is what it is....cheaper !!!!
..plus H-D knows...that people that buy a sporty will eventually be back to buy a big twin..so in essence...they get a two for one sale....good bizness...

...after many years of deliberation....deep thought....angst....mindless mumblings.....yearnings...loathings....flip-flopping....
...I decided to get inked !!!
...lordy..lordy...lordy...what an experience.....it wuz everything I thought it wuz going to be.....tattoo parlor....clean, but seedy looking at the same time....
...very experience young lady was chosen for me....I did mah own design work....
....I wuze amazed at the steady stream of people coming and going...a lot of young kids...12-16 year old...come with their mamma or pappa...whole families were there...
...anyway...I am now sporting a highly personalized tat on my shoulder.....I love it...and am already planning the next one..
...no true biker dude oughta be widdout his tat....right :-)

...well....y'know....you have to ask....does wearing a helmet gonna protect a skydiver if the chute don't open....
...can a boot save yer life when you come off the bike at 80 mph...
...does a bullet proof vest protect you from getting shot in the head...
...does a locked door prevent a thief from coming in thru' the window...
... ?????
...I can go one...but you get the picture.....

...I hear ya, rideslow.....but from a purely technical point of view...the moccassin boots are worn underneath my jeans...it would seem that a layer of jeans over a layer of leather would be about as strong as a cavalry type boot worn on the outside...ala...m'bike police ofshisers...but I could be wrong....
...my buddy has some mid-calf high boots...very sweet....but very expensive...
...I have regular riding boots too....they come up over the ankle but that is about it....in the summer they are *****in' hot and uncomfortable....
...I need to find a happy compromise....

...being an ex-sportster rider...I can attest to the fact that the sporty is a fun 'lil ride....not something I'd use for the long haul....but definitely fun.
...my 'ole sporty would shake the fillings outa yer mouth...which was part of it's charm....
...off course, riding without a windshield was the other part of the fun....getting slammed in the face with a bug at 80 mph....was hilarious...
...I miss it :-(

...you sound like my riding buddy.....he does'nt want to hang around me when I'm wearing them....considers them 'sissy-ish"...
However....they are black leather that come up almost to my knees...I had zippers put in them so I could put them on easier....they are soooooo friggin' warm and comfortable...especially riding in cold weather that I can't believe more riders don't wear 'em.....
but....you'll be pleased to know...I do also wear regular black biker boots....I'll be sure to have these one when you come and visit....
the thought of being relegated to the Vespa club hurts.....funny that you mention that...there has been a big craze going on here at the beach where I live....seems like most everyone owns one of these little buzz saw scooters these days....you don't need a bike riding license for the one's under 50cc.....so every Tom, Dick and Harry...and Betsy, Sue and Jane has one......bzzzzzzzz...bzzzzzzz

I don't care for the Rocker either...it is neither beast nor fowl....
..the dealers try to sell you on the fact that is has a "cute' flip out passenger seat" that hides under the rider's seat...beyond that worthless feature I can't see anything to recommend it....
y'know...to me..iffen yer gonna build a chopper...then build a chopper...not a half azz wannabe chopper....'cuz that is what the Rocker aspires to be...a half azz chopper...off course...it fails miserably in this endevour...

...y'know...at the big H-D dealership north of Daytona...they have Sportster models I have never heard of...
...they actually have a Sportster chopper-like looking bike...these are apparently off the shelf items....stretched out....raked...the whole 9 yards...
...and they also have a retro-lookin' sporty there...another apparent off the shelf bike....
...they have rows and rows of these bikes....
