RE: Anybody like the new Sportster 48?

My first Harley was an 883 Hugger Sporty. I have an affection for them, but no desire to ride one full time. Now they are rubber mounted, so they might be easier on the teeth and kidneys. Don't be dissin' the Sportys man.

RE: Anybody like the new Sportster 48?

I saw that today in an e-mail. I like the way it looks. It's kinda that retro '50s style that is trendy right now. 48 is probably the year of the bike, or the year when a bike looked like that that they were styling it after. Did that make any sense? I think Harley should just bring the prices down on the blank canvases instead of creating custom looks to appeal to generate more buyers.

RE: Road trip to Sturgis...

FYI. I don't know who all has read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." But, the route he takes in the book is U.S. Highway 12. It runs through Lemmon, SD. Just a little ways East of Sturgis. It runs up into North Dakota and into Montana. Some scenery, flat, but some neat flatlands. Plus it's literary.

RE: Evo / Twin Cam

I don't know. Maybe the Evo because of the chain tensioners on the TC. I have heard they can be quite a problem when they decide to fail. I have had no probs with my TC with a Stage II.

RE: Tires

The Metz are softer, stickier if you will, than the stock Dunlaps. I know Dunlap makes a stickier tire than the stock Harley ones. I have come to like the Metz.

RE: Tires

The stock Dulaps are harder than the Metzlers. Very noticably on crosswalk tape and railroad crossings -the rails. And they don't slide in corners, unless it's raining.

RE: Will my warranty be voided, HD

You can have anyone do the service. Have them do the same service, same things that the dealer would do, and keep all the reciepts. Your warranty should be intact. Mine was.

RE: Tires

I run Metzler Marathon 880s. I get about 7-8k out of the rear and around 10-11k out of the front. I can get a rear tire, installed for $188.00, and out the door in 30 minutes.

RE: Pipes

I became a fan a few years ago after Greenman turned me onto them. It just took a while to get over the twice pipes.

RE: Pipes

Hooker True Dual Turn Down/Turn Outs w/fishtail ends. Look cool, sound great. Fit and finish is less than desired. Will be getting RB Racing LSR 2 into 1s soon.

RE: Got a taste of some cold weather riding....

Some type of mitten would work well. Maybe a snowmobile mitten, down filled, leather. I know I don't need my fingers much when riding, use mainly my thumbs for turn signals, kill switch ect. Try mittens, the fact that your fingers get be next to each other makes them warmer. They aren't all by themselves in their own little pocket.

When I lived down there, (Jax, Pensacola, Orlando)it seemed the humidity was worse the further inland. On the beach I didn't notice it.

RE: Ford Transit for hauling a motorcycle

Don't worry about offending me. It sounds like I should apologize for offending you. I'm not "offended", and the last couple of weeks one might have needed a car here in Denver. Besides, the very informative "near everything" description of where you live clued me in to the fact that you need a car. Your post sounded like you were concerned about fuel mileage, and that you would prefer to haul your bike everywhere. So, I suggested that you ride the bike, after all that is what you intend to do anyway once you get somewhere, so why not just ride it there. Plus, the bike will get way better mileage than any car of truck that could haul it.

Why don't you ride the motorcycle that gets 30-50mpg?
