RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

My son and a friend have gotten lost because of their GPS. And a gas station IS a watering hole. For the horse!

RE: Harley needs to get its head out of it's past...

Maybe loose the pushrods someday, and maybe even build a new crank design with one connecting point for each piston, instead of the same one for both.

GPS? Half the fun of riding is getting lost. Until it rains or hails.

RE: To Ape or Not to Ape?

I have 16" apes and I am 6 feet tall. They are perfect. Have put 5-600 miles in a day with 'em, and no windshield. Love the bars, but when I am on the road I couldn't give a **** what the bike looks like, I want a windshield.

I checked it out Bobby. They didn't have what I need.

Your standard bars are 15" high?

I love 'em. I don't know where people get this idea that your arms will hurt if you ride with them. I love'em. I have 16" bars on my RKC.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

This place here, 2 Wheelers, owned by charter Hamster member Arlan Fatland, has a pair of cables in stock. They only want $53 a piece. I called Rocky Mountain Harley, they said they would look and call me back. That was yesterday afternoon, and yes I am still waiting. I ask you WTF!?!?!?

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

So, I had that experience with the guy doing my handlebars, and stopped going there. I think he's almost out of business anyway. So, I go to another place to get new throttle and idle cables, because the aforementioned stuffed them through the nacell and they bound up. I ordered them going on 3 weeks ago. They haven't come in yet. I will try a third place. WTF??? Are motorcycle shops/mechanics just supposed to be flakes?

RE: Anybody like the new Sportster 48?

I always tell chicks, or new riders in general not to get a Sporty. They have a high center of gravity making them less stable than any of the big twins. Most people think they are a starter bike because they are smaller, engine wise and size wise. Not the case. I have seen more women start on a Fatboy, or FXR than a Sporty. And, once you get comfortable, you don't feel the need for more bike. Sportys have their place, they are fun, and very customizable.

RE: Tattoo's...love 'em or hate 'em.....part of biker lore....

I don't have any ink. Never could decise what and where. Probably won't get one. My best friend and tattoo artist died a few years ago.

RE: Anybody like the new Sportster 48?

My first Harley was an 883 Hugger Sporty. I have an affection for them, but no desire to ride one full time. Now they are rubber mounted, so they might be easier on the teeth and kidneys. Don't be dissin' the Sportys man.

RE: Anybody like the new Sportster 48?

I saw that today in an e-mail. I like the way it looks. It's kinda that retro '50s style that is trendy right now. 48 is probably the year of the bike, or the year when a bike looked like that that they were styling it after. Did that make any sense? I think Harley should just bring the prices down on the blank canvases instead of creating custom looks to appeal to generate more buyers.

RE: Road trip to Sturgis...

FYI. I don't know who all has read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." But, the route he takes in the book is U.S. Highway 12. It runs through Lemmon, SD. Just a little ways East of Sturgis. It runs up into North Dakota and into Montana. Some scenery, flat, but some neat flatlands. Plus it's literary.

RE: Evo / Twin Cam

I don't know. Maybe the Evo because of the chain tensioners on the TC. I have heard they can be quite a problem when they decide to fail. I have had no probs with my TC with a Stage II.

RE: Tires

The Metz are softer, stickier if you will, than the stock Dunlaps. I know Dunlap makes a stickier tire than the stock Harley ones. I have come to like the Metz.

RE: Tires

The stock Dulaps are harder than the Metzlers. Very noticably on crosswalk tape and railroad crossings -the rails. And they don't slide in corners, unless it's raining.

RE: Will my warranty be voided, HD

You can have anyone do the service. Have them do the same service, same things that the dealer would do, and keep all the reciepts. Your warranty should be intact. Mine was.
