RE: Excessive fairing vibration

Well, I removed the outer fairing and discovered that both vertical support brackets were broken at the top were it attaches to the inner fairing. Instead of replacing them, I was prepared to repair them with the "L" brackets I bought from Wal-Mart. I had previously conducted a google search on broken inner fairing brackets and came up with a host of information on how to repair them from the hdforum site. The one thing that kept ringing in my head was. Why replace them if they are just going to break again down the road. A couple of bucks for the L brackets. The screws' nuts and lockwashers I already had in the garage and an hours time the brackets were fixed and all fairing vibrations stopped. A whole lot simpler than replacing both fairing support brackets and a more permanent fix.

RE: RB Racing Exhausts....

Howsit2003, I'm curious as to what ecu/efi (blackbox)you'll be using with this RB racing pipe. I believe you'll have a hell of a time finding a map for it.

RE: Excessive fairing vibration

Thanks Slow, I've reveiwed the removal procedure on the Fix My Hog DVD several times, and like you said, it's a whole lot better to do this with two people. I looked at the service manual this morning and I'm not quite clear as to what to look for as far as mounting screws, brackets and bolts go. It sure looks busy behind that fairing. I may just let the dealer look at it when I bring it in for a new front tire change next summer.

Excessive fairing vibration

Just wondering if anyone has ever removed there outer fairing and tightend whatever screw/bolt to stop the fairing from viberating so much at idle. It seems to be worse on the right side. It started ratteling here recently when parked with the handlebars turned to the left. I've got the service manual and I'm sure I can figure it out. Was just wondering if someone has done this before. Blue,

RE: Anyone added FuelPak to Stage One Touring?

I currently run a power commander USB III, Big Sucker aircleaner, Vance & Hines true dual header pipes hooked up to the stock pipes on my '07 Ultra. You can use Vance & Hines Fuel Pack to acheive the same. I am not a strong beleiver in after market slip-ons. It's okay if you want to change the way your bike sounds but, your 400 dollars would be better spent on the true dual headers oppose to the slip-ons that at most will only deliver 4 additional horsepower. Be warned that bumping up to stage 1 with true duals will lower your fuel mileage 2 to 3 miles per gallon as more fuel is needed to mix with the increased air volume. What you will notice is that the bike will sound better. You'll have more torque and power mid to high rpms (about 3-5 hps & 5-8 ftlbs of torque). You will notice a slight decrease in power at a standing start (that's what the crossover pipe adds along with better EPA emissions) Lastly, I remove my leg lowers in May then put them back on in October. That change alone will lower the heat you feel by 25 to 30 degrees. Go for it. You won't be disappointed. If you still want slip-ons later down the line you can still do so. It'll only take you a couple of minute to reprogramm your EFI.

RE: Anyone added FuelPak to Stage One Touring?

I don't know what equipment you currently have on your Ultra, but if you are looking to have a cooler bike in city driving there is only one cure. True Duals. You have to remove that heat sink of a crossover pipe. You stated that you do have an oil cooler which is good, but as you already found out, it does not work well when your traveling under 30 mph. Also, your bike is too old to receive the '07 and newer EFI flash that disables the rear cylinder when the bike is hot and idleing at a stop.

RE: Oil Pressure light staying on.

Ride Slow, The wiring diagram shows a green/yellow wire going to the oil pressure switch then up to a 8 pin connector (21A) which then goes to the instrument cluster and the fuse box (15amp instrument fuse)I believe you have located to oil pressure switch on your Police Model Road King. Sorry to hear you won't have the time to fix it and are going to take it in for repair. (If that’s the case you won't get it back for your Thursday ride.) Let me tell Y'all a story that happened about twenty years ago. I was riding my 86 Honda Shadow VT1100 to work one day and about a mile and a half from work the bike just quit and died on me. Initial investigation revealed that every time I hit the starter switch the ignition fuse would blow. I then had it hauled to a shop in the back of a pick-up truck my co-worker had. The shop kept/looked at it for a week. The service manager called me and said he still could not fix it and wondered if he should continue or stop and hand it back to me. I decided to take the bike back as I could see the repair bill adding up. The service manager felt bad that he could not get it fixed and only charged me a hundred dollars and offered to haul it back to my home. I asked him if he could photo copy the wire diagram and give me a copy. He said definitely. A day and a half later in the comfort of my garage about 8 hours or so total. I troubleshot it down to a shorted fuel pump. I learned two valuable lessons back then. One, never underestimate your abilities and two, although you might think the dealer can fix anything they are no smarter then you. They just have the proper tools and tech data that you might not have.

RE: Oil Pressure light staying on.

Sorry Ride. The manual I'm referring to is a '07 Touring Models Service Manual. The oil pressure switch is different on Electra-Glide's as opposed to the Road Kings (two wires verses one wire) Anyhow, back to your problem. The fact that the light stays on with the sensor/switch diconnected is proof that its shorting to the bikes frame. Unfortunatly you will have to message every inch of that wire until you find where it has chaffed to the frame. (Deal with this everyday at work on our F-16 fighter aircraft as you would not beleive how much they bend and flex while in flight) Good Luck

RE: Oil Pressure light staying on.

I'm glad you didn't have a chance to look at it last night as I got home and looked at the repair manual. It turns out that the oil pressure switch on Road Kings is a normally closed switch when I thought it would be an open switch. With the ignition on, the circuit is complete as the switch provides the case ground. Once the engine is started and the oil pressure is up the switch will open and thus the light will go out. So once again locate the oil pressure switch. Should be on the forward right side of the motor next to where you spin the oil filter on. There should be a single wire on a 90 degree elbow connector connected to the switch. Pull it off. Now turn the ignition on and the light should not be on. If it is, then the wire harness is shorted to the bike frame thus completing the circuit. The manual says to install oil pressure switch using a 15/16 crows foot torque at 96-120 in-lbs. (Apply Loctite Pipe Sealant with Teflon 565 to threads) Kpapa your problem is similar. I believe that the wire insulation on your oil pressure switch has pulled back some. When water reaches it, it shorts it to case ground thus turning the light on. You can duplicate this by starting the bike and then using a water bottle with a pull top, douse it with water and watch the light come on. If the insulation is not the problem but the light still comes on when you douse the switch with water, it is possible that the ceramic insulation on the oil pressure switch is cracked and water is causing it to short.

RE: Oil Pressure light staying on.

Without looking at a repair manual, I'll tell you to do this. First locate the oil pressure switch. It should have a wire harness connected to two terminals. Disconnect it and then short the two ends of the wire harness together with a wire. Next turn the ignition on and there should be no oil light lit. This will tell you that there are no opens in the bikes wire harness. Next I would replace the oil pressure switch myself and then take it for a ride. If that doesn't fix it, then I'ld take it in for repair. Still could be a bad wire harness that only shows up when riding over bumpy roads or the motor has an oil pressure problem. Good Luck, P.S. You may find that the wire harness to the oil pressure swith was loose.

RE: Power Commander USB III Fuel Mileage

I did a 200 mile trip yesterday, traveling at about 75mph on mostly superslab highway. I averaged 39 mpg.

RE: Synthetic oils for the FLHRC

I just replaced the Amsoil on my bike yesterday in all three holes after 10,000 miles. The transmission oil looked as clean as the oil poured from a fresh bottle. The inner primary was a little dirty do to the friction wear of the clutch plates. The engine oil looked dirty, as I entisipated it would do to engine combustion contammenants. Great product. Highly recommend it.

RE: Tripping in Maine

If you have the time, it would be great if you made it all the way North to a town called Madawaska. It's hailed as the most North Eastern town in the continental United States. Also my home town. Please be watchful of the wildlife crossing the roadway. Bring warm clothing for the mornings. Have fun!

RE: Aux input HD Eglide not working

Does the radio display AUX when you plug the audio cable into the receptical? Say if your radio in tuned on an FM station and you plug an audio cable into the aux receptical with nothing hooked up on the other end of it. It will go and display AUX. If not then there is a possible issue with the radio.

RE: Aux input HD Eglide not working

Are you referring to the aux input of the radio? If so, try maxing out the volume on your MP3/IPOD player then adjust the volume on the bike to a comfortable level. If that doesn't work, ensure that your audio cable is good. That's all I got.

Have you crashed yet?

I just had a friend of mine go down while riding his bike this past Friday. Facts are still sketchy, but it appears that he was riding his bike to the dealer to get a new rear tire onto his '06 Ultra in which he had worn down to the cord by doing burn outs in the parking lots of the local bars (stupid on his part) A witness who was driving a car behind him said he saw him switch lanes and then saw the bike wiggle dramatically and then crash. Now, I figure he popped his rear tire and lost control. He is laid up in a hospital with a broken hip, broken shoulder, broken ribs, two collapse lungs, scrapes on his face (only wearing a Shorty helmet)and hooked up to a ventilator. My question to Y'all is. Do you beleive that All riders will go down eventually, or do you believe that a skilled rider can ride for decades without a crash? I believe they are two camps out there. Those who believe that you will eventually crash, and those who think that no, that's just bad luck.

RE: A Beer or Two with Lunch

I often won't drink if riding my MC. However I've been known to have one beer before riding home. I would much rather have that "survival" beer at the end of the day as a reward in the comfort of my home instead.
