RE: Iron Butt !!

It is a long trip but we try to make the whole thing an adventure, we blast out to SD from MD in 3 days taking scenic roads if possible and then we just take it as it comes and we don't really focus on staying in Sturgis for long, maybe 2 days and a day in Deadwood. It's really about the beauty of the surronding states and local beauty. I'm going to post these sites for first timers as places you have to see. Near Sturgis and Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles Hwy, Anywhere in thw Blackhills State Forest, the Badlands State Park near Wall Drug, The Devil's Tower (now we are in MT) Red Lodge, Bear Creek (eating at the Bear Creek Saloon is a must, the pig races start at 7:15pm ), the Bear Tooth Pass, now to WY, Yellowstone, Chief St. Josephs Hywy, Clarks Fork Gorge, Cody (Rodeo's everynight), all this took us two weeks plus I did dropped down to the Great Smokey Moutain St. Park in NC and started the Blue Ridge Pkwy back towards MD.
It's a lot of riding but your head is spinning looking at all the great sites we have to see here in the US and most of the people are great too if you slow down enough and take the time to share your trip with them. In fact this trip was so much fun I would do it with a tent and sleeping bag and with money so short this year that may be the way I have to go to afford it.

RE: Ride to the Wall in DC

Well I sorry to see there are no takers but I understand fully, after all it's not exactly a short ride for either of you guys and it's just a hop, skip, and a jump for me. Thanks for the replies and maybe I'll be able to post some pictures of the ride in a couple of weeks, I usually have a theme for my photos, like best beards or ugliest ride.

RE: Iron Butt !!

We are trying to go to Sturgis this year, we did it in 07 and it took 3 days of fairly hard riding from MD and from FL it's going to be even longer so you better get your a$$ in shape. My bike was new on the last trip and if you ride as much we both may need new seats, they don't stay comfortable forever. I am planning on getting to Sturgis a week before the event starts and we all think we are in for treat as far as pricing goes in this economy. In fact this may be the smallest Stugis rally ever and we all are scaping and digging to find enough cash, I may even pull out the tent and bedroll and at 50 it's not going to be a pretty site in the mornings.

Ride to the Wall in DC

Is anyone going to Rolling Thunder in DC this comming Sunday? I can only offer one good spot to start from: The Greenbelt American Legion is on Greenbelt Rd. one light north of the Parkway (295)make a right at the light if your heading north and a immediate left on to the service road and it's a block up on the right, there's no way you could miss it there will be 500 to a 1,000 bikes there. They are trying to depart at 8:00 to 8:15 am on Sunday May 30th.
From the legion we will ride down 295 to the South Capitol St. Bridge and then take 395 to the mall, their parking lot is on the tital basin right across from the Jefferson Memorial and very close to the WW II memorial. The legion ride will be escorted by the US Park Police and the parking is also gaurded by them. It's a great ride with all of the route closed to only us bikers and nobody in a cage is aloud all courtesy of the legion and the USPP.
After all you can stand of watching bikers pass by and seeing all of your old friends the legion has a party with booze and food late into the evening. If you have a bike your invited and please respond to this post if you are new or would just like more info, I would love to see some new faces from the forum.

RE: maryland motorcycle inspection

This may be too little too late, but any HD dealer or C&C Cycle in Odenton, tell Roy that Tim sent you and I would call first.

RE: Anybody like the new Road King Custom?

How would you like to have to cut grass and maintain an inground pool 12 months out of the year?
Any idea how much it costs to run central air conditioning all year long?
In Maryland my electric bill is about $185 a month for cool air in the summer, but the heat is propane and is about $400 a month or more.
That was one of my worst moves ever, my oil furnace died so I switched to propane because it was only .99 a gallon. I had it for one fill up at that price, now after a couple of years it's 2.69 a gallon. The bill for my 500 gallon tank is around $1,200. and it gets filled a couple of times each winter.

RE: H.D. rocket engine for Drone in 60s

The article I read said that the engine was built by Rocketdyne but credited to HD in some cases due to a series of corporate buy outs. I like to stap one to my bike to see how fast it would go.

RE: Where did you ride today?

Someone just told me about this thread on the other side, so I've been checking out all the great photos and thought I would post some of my own. Although most of them wont be from this year, due to the economy we have had to cancel all of our planned trips this year with the exception of a few long weekends here and there.

This from a hill climb at the White Rose Motorcycle Club in Jefferson PA.

This is a canyon near Hot Springs WY and my wife is taking the shot from the back of the bike. It was very nice with the river and train track leading us thru this Indian reservation and the 3 TeePee's were just a bonus.

This one is kind of hazy but we are not in a helicopter, this is the Bear Tooth Pass that borders mid Montana and Wyoming.

The Buffalo are in Custer State Park SD, and then Needles Hywy in the Black Hills State Park in SD, and My wife in the Badland State Park SD.
I can't seem to get my photo to upload, I used the image box and copied and pasted from another photo site. Could you help post my photos correctly so I can fix this mess above?
Update - I finally found the correct URL address thanks for the help

RE: Radio quit on my 07 RG

I'll keep that in mind, I like riding in PA it's not only beautiful but I get to take my helmet off. That's a long ride from Florida to go to small rally for a weekend or is it all week long.

RE: RB Racing Exhausts....

Sorry to cut in but we rode to NY last month, some place near Climax NY and I can't remember how to say it or spell it, but I always love the names up there. We went to Nick's Waterfall house and 5 or 6 other bars on a poker run, beautiful country. BTW I have heard nothing but good things about those pipes for over 5 or 6 years now.

RE: Radio quit on my 07 RG

You don't really want to ride in DC unless you have a death wish, we go every year to Rolling Thunder and are escorted by the Park Police and I guess most everyone does get the same escort, but my friend retired from the maintenance garage, if you ever need a police style saddle bag let me know. DC is great to go and see museums, National Shrine, Zoo, etc. but the drivers are wild and some are high with cars that only have brake pads on the left front wheel etc. I know that from experience, I was on a ramp that had a hard curve and concrete barrier on both sides and waiting in the middle of the turn for the light to change when a car comes up behind me fast and slams on the brakes, only one was smoking and he almost hit me. My natural reaction was to jump off the bike and go kick his a$$, but I took one look and quickly realized he wouldn't have felt a thing, he was just as high as he could be. So I just tried to keep my distance.
But Rolling Thunder is great, you see all kinds and them some. The city can also be very nice and there is alot to see, I guess I just take it for granted being I have lived here for 50 years come November.

RE: Radio quit on my 07 RG

Sorry I've been away for a couple of days. The J&M speakers do sound better than stock, mine are an older version with a single chrome tweeter (that has never rusted in 35,000 miles) they are making a 7 inch speaker now with a tweeter and midrange speaker in the grille in black or chrome for $279.00, I think it would pump out a lot more bass and I would like to upgrade. I think my radio has a power problem so I'm going to see if any connections are corroded first and get out my test light, I just haven't felt like pulling off the fairing yet. And I have been to Crutchfield but didn't see anything that I liked so far, I'm worried about putting a regular ole radio in my bike, I keep it in the garage but I have ridden through my share of rain and I am worried that it will get trashed by the rain. I haven't really thought about a stereo that uses memory instead of cd's, but that's a very good idea. One person on another forum suggsted the Kenwood stereo he used, but I looked at it and it had a open cd slot that was just begging for some road dirt and rain. I am also not too fond of Sony that Hogtunes offers but a lot of people swear by them. Thanks for all the imput and keep it coming.

RE: muffler packing

You might want to ask at Bike or Boat shops too. It may be hard to find but if all fails you may have to replace the baffles. On my first header installation (30 years ago) I thought it was just a packing material used in shipping and I ripped it all off before realizing just at the last moment it was part of the baffle, anyway I had the loudest Kawasaki 650 with a Kerker pipe in all of Maryland. I seem to remember my 20 year old girlfriend's father loved it.

RE: Rinehart exhaust systems..... ??

Yeah that's high, but find the pipe you like and start seaching the net. I bet you can find them cheaper by going to the manufacturers site and look for links for retail sales. Also look at Zippers site for tech specs, I saw a stock softail with 2 into 1 pipes and their high flow air filter with the thundermax ECM and I believe it got a 28 hp gain on this simple upgrade. I thought it was pretty impressive, I didn't get that much for the same setup with Rinehart true duals.

RE: Rinehart exhaust systems..... ??

You may want to check out this site http://www.zippersperformance.com I think these are nice looking pipes and Zipper's gets some pretty impressive power gains. I have no experience with the sound and I have RH true duals on my Road Glide but I wish I had used these 2 into 1 pipes for more HP & Torque, but at the time I couldn't stand the look of a single pipe on a dresser.

RE: Radio quit on my 07 RG

Thanks I'll have to pick up a copy of Thunder press and check out the adds. I have removed the fairing before to upgrade my speakers to J&M and replace my headlights for something a little brighter. I guess I'll have to check out some websites for marine radios that might fit.

Radio quit on my 07 RG

We were doing some bar hopping last week and I was riding with my radio off but I did notice the HD emblem while riding, anyway we got to the next stop and someone asked for the time, so I tuned the key and there was nothing. I checked both of the fuses and later noticed that the light worked on the radio display but nothing else works. Before I pull the fairing on my 07 Road Glide I thought I would ask for help in finding a replacement radio with a cd/mp3 player, I would also like to hear from anyone who has had their radio fail.
